Motorola's new Moto G Max comes with a Min price and 'over two days' of battery life

The latest budget-friendly Motorola handset packs a gargantuan 7,000mAh battery into a surprisingly slim and robust body.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. A new mid-range Motorola handset is ready to take on one of the world's biggest smartphone markets with a seemingly unbeatable price tag attached to its name and a ridiculously large battery somehow squeezed into an impressively thin and yet also very robust body.

Sounds familiar? It absolutely should after the announcements of the Moto G77 Power, G87, G47, G37 Power, G37, and Edge 70 Pro Plus over the last few months alone, and even the Moto G Max moniker might ring a bell for the most hardcore Motorola fans and the closest mobile industry watchers out there.

But confusingly enough, the Moto G Max unveiled in India ahead of a regional August 20 release is different from the Moto G Max put on sale in Brazil back in June, which kind of makes me hopeful a third Moto G Max variant for the US or Europe could be announced down the line.

These specs are definitely not bad

  • 6.72-inch LCD screen with 2400 x 1080 pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate technology;
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor;
  • 6GB LPDDR5X RAM;
  • 128GB UFS 3.1 internal storage;
  • Android 16;
  • Two guaranteed OS upgrades and three years of security patches;
  • 50MP primary rear-facing camera with Sony LYTIA 600 sensor and f/1.8 aperture;
  • 8MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture;
  • 32MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and Quad Pixel technology;
  • 7,000mAh battery;
  • 30W TurboPower charging capabilities;
  • Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio technology;
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac;
  • Bluetooth 5.1;
  • 3.5mm headphone jack;
  • USB 2.0 Type-C port;
  • IP64 water and dust resistance;
  • MIL-STD-810H durability;
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 7i screen protection;
  • 166.23 x 76.5 x 8.6mm dimensions;
  • 213 grams weight;
  • Pantone Stargazer, Pantone Alaskan Blue, and Pantone Malaga color options.

And they're made even better by the sub-$300 price point

That's right, the new Moto G Max is set to start at the rough equivalent of $280 (Rs. 26,999) in India with a hefty 7,000mAh battery under its hood, which feels like a much better deal than the older and pricier Moto G Max over in Brazil with a 5,200mAh cell.

Of course, the Brazilian G Max, which costs R$2,249 (USD 430), comes with better cameras, more storage, and more memory than its Indian namesake, so it's hard to say which value proposition is objectively superior all in all.

Then again, the new Moto G Max obviously doesn't have to compete with the "old" Moto G Max, instead taking on other India-first affordable battery heavyweights like the OnePlus Nord CE6 Lite, OnePlus N6, and Vivo T5 Lite.

Those are some very tight battles, mind you, and while Vivo is unlikely to be overtaken by Motorola (or even Samsung) in regional smartphone sales in the near future, well-balanced devices like this super-durable and undeniably stylish G Max will certainly help boost the brand's presence in the always crucial Indian market.

Should you expect a US release?

All my years of covering the volatile and unpredictable mobile industry have taught me never to say never, but the odds of seeing a device like the Moto G Max officially sold in the US feel more or less equal to the chances Samsung's Galaxy Note family has to return from the dead by the end of 2026.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's simply not going to happen (almost definitely), which is made that much more heartbreaking by the Moto G Max's "over two days of battery life" promise in India. Stateside, remember, you've got the disappointingly generic Moto G Power (2026) vaguely claiming to deliver "reliable" battery endurance with an unremarkable 5,200mAh cell capacity at an arguably excessive $399.99 price point.
