Remember the Enough Phone? Back in September, I reported on this cute little Android project, and now it seems that the guys behind the 5.3-inch device have decided to push forward. The Enough Phone is now officially on Kickstarter, and you can get one for $399.

The first information about this peculiar little device popped up in June. Back then, the guys behind the project posted on the Enough Phone website that they needed at least 20,000 people to show interest in order to move forward with the plan.
Now, it seems that this requirement has been met, as the project is officially on Kickstarter. Not only did it generate almost half of the $250,000 goal ($117,732 at the time of this writing), but this was achieved in less than 24 hours.
After years of watching phones get bigger and bigger, we decided it was time for the return of the small smartphone!

The project will be funded if it gets $250K by December 4, which, given the strong start, is almost a certainty.
The early bird bid is still available, with just a single device left (out of 250 units) starting at $399. The next tier has 464 units left out of 500 at $449, so if you're a fan of small phones, now's the time to back the project.

But what exactly is this Enough Phone all about?

The idea behind the Enough Phone is pocketability. The device will be just 133 mm tall and 64 mm wide — that's a similar footprint to an iPhone 13 mini and much smaller dimensions than the modern Android and iOS phones you can get today.
The Enough Phone is rather thick at 12 mm, but the guys behind the project think that makes the device even more ergonomic. What about specs? They're midrange at best, but serve the name of the project and should be "enough."
If the Kickstarter campaign proves to be a success, the production unit will feature a 5.3-inch 720 x 1520 LCD screen, a removable 3,500 mAh battery, and a mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, expandable via a microSD slot.
Two variants - one powered by Android, and another featuring a much simpler Odyssey OS. | Image by Enough Phone
The camera system will feature a single 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor on the back, and a 32MP selfie snapper. The device will also support face unlock, and will have a fingerprint sensor in the power button.
But the most interesting feature is that you will be able to choose whether you want your Enough Phone to be a smartphone running Android or a "feature phone" with a much simpler Odyssey OS.
Last but not least, the Enough Phone will get software support until 2032, which is quite a commitment.

Would you buy a 5.3-inch Android midranger at $599?
Is there a place for compact phones under the smartphone sky?

That's a tough question. The compact flagship phone died with the iPhone 13 Mini, a year after Apple's venture into that territory ended after abysmal sales.
On the Android front, Asus made a couple of Zenfone iterations under the 6-inch mark, but ultimately decided that the future belongs to big screens (before calling it quits altogether). Now, looking at the midrange smartphone market, there's virtually nothing mainstream at that display size, so the Enough Phone is quite unique.
The trouble is, there's a market reason such compact phones have disappeared from the shelves for good. I've always been a fan of compact phones — my good old Xperia Ray is still very much operational — but I don't think this Enough Phone project will ever overcome its niche status.
At the $599 regular price, this cute little plastic midranger competes with some entry-level flip foldables. The Motorola Razr (2025) starts at exactly $599, and you're getting much more "phone" for that kind of money.
As a backup phone or a "detox" phone (especially if you go for the Odyssey OS), the Enough Phone should be… enough? The problem is ultimately the price. What do you think about it? Would you buy a 5.3-inch Android midranger at $599?
