Bank refunded your iPhone Duo pre-order through Verizon? Don't panic just yet

This may seem scary at first, but it doesn't mean there's something wrong with your iPhone Duo order.

A lucky few may have already received their iPhone Duo pre-order, but it seems that not everyone shares the same experience. In fact, even some foldable phone fans who placed their order through carriers like Verizon on the very first day are still waiting to get their hands on Apple's first-ever foldable phone.

As if that isn't frustrating enough, some are now questioning whether their iPhone Duo will arrive at all after the taxes they paid when they pre-ordered the device have been returned to their bank accounts.

iPhone Duo delivery problems don't seem to end

It's no secret that some retailers pushed back the iPhone Duo delivery to January 2027. But for some users, the troubles don't end with just having to wait. One user who placed their pre-order through Verizon on October 16, 2026, is seeing their delivery date move back and forth.

But then, curiously enough, the money they paid in taxes at the time of pre-order somehow popped back into their bank account. Naturally, the user felt more than a little confused, wondering if the refund could mean the iPhone Duo won't ship at all.

No reason to panic (for now)

The iPhone Duo troubles of this user attracted some attention, and one respondent explained banks can't actually hold money for pending transactions for more than seven days.

Since the iPhone Duo wasn't delivered to the user, banks can't actually keep the money and sent it back. This isn't a fixed rule, of course, as authorization periods can vary depending on the bank, card issuer, and type of transaction.

Although returned refunds wouldn't necessarily indicate your iPhone Duo pre-order has been canceled, you may want to check with Verizon or your bank just to be sure.

This is a key detail

If the same thing has happened to you, there's no reason to panic (or blame Verizon) just yet. The money reappearing in your bank account could mean that the original payment authorization has expired, not that your iPhone Duo won't arrive at all.

But it's important to clarify that even if that's the case, once your iPhone Duo shipping label is printed out, the tax amount will be drawn from your account again once Verizon processes the payment. If you don't, however, have enough money in your account, your order could be canceled.

I'm still worried about this iPhone Duo problem

Having to wait (seemingly endlessly) to get a device you really want can be very frustrating. But seeing reports about its display cracking after just a few hours of use is just as concerning.

And while these reports don't necessarily point to a fundamental problem with the iPhone Duo's build quality, they're not what you'd want to hear about a phone that costs $2,000.

My advice is this: if these reports have made you more concerned about the iPhone Duo than excited to get your hands on it, perhaps it's time to reconsider your purchase and (why not) cancel your order.

But if you're still convinced Apple's first foldable would be just as amazing as you hoped, consider contacting your bank or Verizon if you suddenly see your tax amount back in your account to make sure everything works well.
