iPhone 18 Pro units are spread all over Dodger Stadium tonight, with Apple TV using 14 of them for the season's final "Friday Night Baseball" game. That's more than triple last year's count, and it's the same kind of live-sports test the Galaxy S26 Ultra already took on as a contender for the best camera phones around.
Apple is tucking 14 iPhone 18 Pro units into Dodger Stadium
Apple announced that tonight's Giants at Dodgers matchup, the last "Friday Night Baseball" game of the season, will feature footage from 14 iPhone 18 Pro devices placed around Dodger Stadium. Some of those spots are pretty unusual too, including inside the pitch clock, the backstop and a foul pole, plus both bullpens, since the phone's small size lets the crew put a camera where a traditional broadcast rig wouldn't fit.

Eight of those phones will connect over a dedicated T-Mobile Private 5G Network, so their footage can flow into the live broadcast in real time. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. PT (10:15 p.m. ET), and the game streams for Apple TV subscribers in 60 countries and regions with no local broadcast restrictions.

The private 5G part is what makes tonight different, and it's simpler than it sounds. A packed ballpark means tens of thousands of fans trying to post videos on the same cell towers at once, which is exactly when a live camera feed can stutter. A private network is a slice of 5G set aside just for the production, so the broadcast phones aren't fighting the crowd for bandwidth.

T-Mobile has done this before, building a dedicated 5G private network so NBC Sports could run untethered cameras at last year's Ryder Cup.
Apple isn't alone in any of this, though. As we covered in April, Samsung embedded the Galaxy S26 Ultra into the rails and ledges of a Street League Skateboarding course, and Galaxy S25 Ultra units fed live, wireless angles during the Milano Cortina 2026 Opening Ceremony. Google has tried it too, with the German Football Association using handheld Pixel phones for new live-TV angles at 10 Women's Bundesliga games.
What the iPhone 18 Pro footage means for new owners
For iPhone 18 Pro owners, it's basically a live demo of the phone you just bought in action. Apple is pointing to the new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, along with Pro controls for settings like White Balance and Shutter Speed.
Why going from four iPhones to 14 matters more than the novelty
Going from four phones to 14 in a year, with live wireless feeds on top, tells me Apple's production crew now sees the iPhone as a regular tool, and that's more interesting to me than any single camera spec.
Still, the real test is how those pitch-clock and bullpen angles look under the lights tonight. I'm hoping Apple shares a few raw clips afterward, because I'd personally love to see what the iPhone 18 Pro captured before the broadcast graphics go on top.
