Google’s AirDrop feature has a Wi-Fi bug on some Pixel 10 devices
You can use Android Quick Share to send files to iPhones over AirDrop, but it may break your Wi-Fi.
Last week, Google launched a feature that allows Pixel 10 users to use Quick Share to share files with Apple devices over AirDrop. The feature was launched behind Apple’s back, but Google took extra care to make sure it wasn’t creating security issues. Apparently, the company has missed one substantial bug.
Opening the file share menu on a Pixel 10 after the Quick Share update that added AirDrop support makes the device disconnect from any Wi-Fi network. Android Police reports that various users across Google’s support forums and Reddit are complaining of the issue.
While the Quick Share menu is open, users say that the list of available Wi-Fi networks stays empty. Switching Wi-Fi off and on with the menu still open doesn’t solve the issue. However, once you close the Quick Share menu or switch focus to another app, the Wi-Fi reconnects.
Google launched the Quick Share update for Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold last week. The company said that’s the start, suggesting wider support at a later point. Apple hasn’t reacted to Google’s update, but it’s likely that the company will block compatibility with a future software update.
This issue is innocuous enough to not feel like a big deal, but it’s still annoying. I hope Google is paying attention and fixes the problem sooner rather than later.

Google is probably aware of the bug

Chances are that Google is aware of the bug, as it was already reported to the company. The issue was raised in the Google Issue Tracker, where someone from the company recommended reporting it in the support forums. Meanwhile, folks at the support forums claimed that the issue should be raised in the Issue Tracker, demonstrating that even Google’s bureaucracy can be confusing.
