"Insane" demand has the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line generating more pre-orders than the Galaxy S26 series

According to a tweet from a leaker on "X" known as @TheGalox_, who typically posts about Samsung Galaxy devices, the Korean manufacturer has some hot new foldable phones that are attracting pre-orders in record numbers. These pre-orders are for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, which includes the wider and shorter internal display on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The latter resembles the Galaxy Z Fold 7 but adds a larger 5,000mAh battery with faster 45W charging, an upgraded 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor (also found on the Galaxy Z Fold 8). Pre-orders for these foldables started on July 22 and will be accepted through August 6. The series will be officially released on August 7.

The leaker wrote in his tweet that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has seen 3x the number of pre-orders generated by the Galaxy Z Fold 7. That is amazing, but it also might be misleading since the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features the new passport-size internal display and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is actually the follow-up model to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
This year's Fold 8 line has more pre-orders than the 2025 Z Fold 7 series
Perhaps we should just look at the entire series, and there, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra have already surpassed the record number of pre-orders achieved by last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. But this year's foldable Fold 8 line is actually the first to show demand tracking ahead of pre-orders for non-foldable "regular phones."
For example, (perhaps you should be seated to read this), the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is on pace to surpass the number of pre-orders that were collected by the flagship Galaxy S26 line earlier this year. TheGalox_ typed that Samsung's 2026 book-style foldables are showing the kind of demand he only expected to see for the iPhone Ultra, which will be introduced in September.

The leaker wrote in a second tweet that no one forecasted this level of demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. He calls it "insane" that the foldable line is on pace to get more pre-orders than the flagship Galaxy S26 models.
Strong Galaxy Z Fold 8 series pre-orders seen in India
The strength in Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra pre-orders was confirmed by reliable Samsung Galaxy leaker Ice Universe. He points out that Samsung India has revealed that the number of pre-orders generated by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series in that country in just three days took last year's models 15 days to achieve.
This is the year that foldables become more than just a niche
Most analysts expect the foldable market to grow sharply this year with the addition of the iPhone Ultra. We are already seeing signs that this market will no longer be just a niche one following the strong demand for Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra pre-orders.
