Apple iPhone Duo promotional video brings back the aura surrounding the 2007 iPhone
Watch this promo from Apple and see if it takes you back to 2007.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I was equating today's unveiling of the first foldable iPhone with the introduction of the first-generation iPhone back in 2007. There are some major differences though. The 2007 iPhone was a revolutionary device with its touchscreen display, YouTube client, Visual Voicemail, virtual QWERTY, the multitouch pinch-to-zoom interface, and more.
Wednesday's iPhone Duo unveiling gave off a bit of Jobs' 2007 iPhone introduction aura
Some of you might consider the iPhone Duo to be a revolutionary device, but Apple's iteration of a foldable smartphone does not create a new category like the first iPhone did. So while I felt that today's event gave off the aura of Steve Jobs at Macworld 2007, there really is no comparison between the two. Right?
Something about the voice over announcer saying "This is iPhone" took me back to 2007
Well then, why does this video from Apple give me those 2007 iPhone vibes again? Perhaps it is the way the voice-over announcer opens the ad by saying, "This is an iPhone." The first regular ad for the 2007 iPhone (not including the infamous "Hello" commercial) was brilliant since it showed off the main features of the device and how to use them.
Let me make it clear that at 3 minutes and 6 seconds, the video embedded in this article is not going to show up on college football broadcasts this weekend. Still, I'd be surprised if you didn't agree with me about the comparison.
I know that the 2007 iPhone ads got me to buy the iPhone and for some, the new iPhone Duo video might be doing the same for consumers. The big difference is that in 2007, no one had ever seen a device like the iPhone before. In 2026, most consumers have some familiarity with foldables. However, there is a big selling point as the Duo is the only foldable that runs on iOS.
At the one-minute mark of the video, it shows how you can use Siri AI to ask for the name of a band mentioned by Adam in an email he sent to you. Siri AI can go through your Apple apps including Email, Messages, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Photos and Safari to answer your queries. In this specific case, the AI assistant finds that Adam had sent you an email suggesting that you listen to a band called "ear."

Even the Siri AI demo had a 2007 feeling to it
You ask Siri to play a song from their recent album and a tune called "Threads" comes out of the Duo's speakers. This sounds a little like a key scene from an ad for the 2007 iPhone that shows a scene from Pirates of the Carribbean when the Kraken attacks the Pirates' ship. "Hmm, did someone say Calamari?" The iPhone user opens the Google Maps client, and types in "Seafood." A restaurant named Pacific Catch shows up and the iPhone is used to call the eatery.
This was an important ad since it showed prospective iPhone buyers exactly how all of the features of the iPhone can fit together to help users get things done.
When can I pre-order the iPhone Duo?
Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo start at 5 AM PDT/8 AM EDT on October 16. The Duo will be available starting on October 23. Pricing starts at $1,999 or $83.29 per month for 24 months. Color options are Night Sky (Black) and Star White (White).
Last week we passed along some leaked specs from a roadmap for future iPhone models published by Bloomberg. According to this roadmap, the next major change to the iPhone Duo will take place with the iPhone Duo 3 expected in 2028. That year we should see an increase in the size of the 5.4-inch external display and in the 7.6-inch internal screen.
