Sony Xperia Z3 captured on video with Android 5.1.1 running the show
The Sony Xperia Z3 was updated to Android 5.0.2 in March, well after many competitors' phones were Lollipopped. But it looks like Sony might not be wasting time with Android 5.1.1, which was seen running the D6603 version of Sony's current flagship phone in a video that was posted to social media.

Android 5.1.1 is expected to bring new animations and a feature that will allow you to find a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection directly from the Quick Settings menu. Speaking of Quick Settings, fresh new icons grace the page.

Sony has been characteristically tight-lipped about its schedule for rolling out Android 5.1 for its Xperia Z line-up. With the video though, it does appear that the manufacturer has been testing the new Android build on its current and former flagship models. For example, Android 5.1.1. was recently spotted on the Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503).

In Australia, mobile operator Telstra reported that a build of Android 5.1.1 it tested for the Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia Z1 and Sony Xperia Z1 Compact suffered from "showstopping issues," and will be resubmitted for testing on July 10th. Telstra hopes to push out Android 5.1.1 to those models in August.

Thanks for the tip!

Lollipop update on my Z2 is awesome. Sony did a great deal of time not to rush the update and make sure no major bugs will go in the way of the performance. Kudos Sony. Bring on the Z5!!!

If the Z gets Android 5.1 as well, then this phone must be the most updated non-Nexus device.

Very nice, love the animations but Android 5.1 still won't make me buy the phone.

I've experienced carrier update tie ups and long update times in both Windows Phone and Android. Although not being the end of the world, it does start to get frustrating to a degree. That's one thing I do love about Apple.

Actually. In reality Sony beat Apple by half a year. iPhone 6 first major update won't be until a year later when the iPhone 6s comes out, The Xperia Z3 first major update happened like 4 months in with 5.02. The Z3 is barely 7 months in and it beat the iPhone 6's first major update by like 5 months. You asshats need to stop giving Apple credit they do not deserve. Yes they are crafty and their PR team is excellent but people need to start looking more at the effort put in rather than the illusion. Their warranty is only good because they charge you the price of 3 phones and can still profit from you if they replace the phone. Other companies lose money if they replace your phone so that's why it's harder. If you hate dealing with them so much, buy their warranty. Apple just slips it into the pricing so it's the same as buying an Android + warranty. Another illusion is this update thing. Apple has the full year to update all their devices. Sony has like a few months and it doesn't help that Google is releasing a new one every 6 months, The bottom line is that most OEMs put in a lot more effort to keep the software updated then Apple does. Why should Apple get credit for putting in less effort just because their situation is better? It makes no sense and we have to stop rewarding their image for this stuff.

I wouldn't mind it if I could manually flash the ftf, but that would just brick my phone

You are not missing much. 5.0.2 is nicer but it also like halves your battery life. I went from 3 days standby at least to a day and a half max.

5.1 is much better than 5.0.2 on my nexus 6. Battery life was terrible but now much more stable

And note 4 still on 5.0.1. Just sold my G3 and note 4 couple of days ago and bought the Z3 dual Sim international in order to give Sony another chance, and to be honest it's worth it even tho Z3 still with dated SD 801 still perform better than note 4 and g3 even on intensive games. I think Sony optimized lollipop better than Samsung and LG.
