The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra are blazing fast with their Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, but one upcoming foldable will dethrone Samsung flagship. The next wide foldable is coming, and it will feature Qualcomm's 2 nm processor.

Honor's wide foldable will be faster than the Galaxy Z Fold 8

Leaks and rumors about the upcoming wide foldable phone from Honor have been circulating for over a month now. The first hints came from prolific Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station back in July. In a post on Weibo, the tipster listed some of the specs of the upcoming Honor Wide Fold.

According to the info, the main folding screen will be a 7.6-inch panel, while the cover screen will be 5.5 inches. The camera profile will use a horizontal Deco design and pack a 200 MP main sensor, plus a periscope telephoto. Finally, the battery is expected to be 7,000mAh or more, thanks to Honor's expertise in silicon-carbon battery tech.

But more importantly, the Honor Wide Fold could be the first foldable to use Qualcomm's next-generation 2 nm chipset — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Now, another tipster has corroborated that piece of information.

The latest leak comes from another Chinese tipster going by the name Smart Pikachu. They posted on Weibo a single line of text, allegedly describing the upcoming Honor Wide Fold device.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to be revealed next month during the annual Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit. The chip will use a 2+3+3 Oryon core configuration and an Adreno 850 GPU.

The new chip comes with LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 flash storage support, and recent leaked benchmarks put it at the top of the silicon food chain. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro scored a whopping 4.83 million points on AnTuTu, 4,388 points in single-core, and 14,273 points in multi-core performance in Geekbench.

The Honor Wide Fold is expected to get the Pro version of the chipset and compete directly with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the upcoming iPhone Ultra.

Honor Wide Fold to have a similar form factor to Galaxy Z Fold 8

The Honor Fold is tipped to have the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, even though there is conflicting information on Weibo.

According to a smart search on the Chinese network, the new wide foldable from Honor will use a slightly different 14:10 aspect ratio, also referred to as the golden ratio. This aspect ratio is slightly wider and closer to a widescreen TV. This could give the Honor Wide Fold a slight advantage compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 when it comes to displaying video content.

Is it worth waiting for the Honor Wide Fold?

If speed is your primary concern, yes. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will be Qualcomm's first 2 nm chip and according to the leaked benchmarks, a true powerhouse.

The camera system on the Honor is also expected to be more powerful, and when it comes to silicon-carbon batteries, Honor is deep into the fifth generation of the tech. So the Honor Wide Fold phone is shaping up to be a real powerhouse, a camera phone, and a stamina champion as well.

On the other hand, getting an Honor device could be difficult, especially in the States, and the price tag could also be eye-watering, judging from the previous high-end foldables of the company, as well as taking into account the current memory crisis.
