Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL images surface two days before unveiling
Tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass had disseminated pictures of the Pixel 2 XL earlier today. Now, he has sent out a tweet that combines the earlier images of the Google Pixel 2 XL with photos showing the Google Pixel 2. The Pixel 2 is produced by HTC, the company that delivered both original Pixel handsets last year. The larger Pixel 2 XL is LG's baby. The pair will be unveiled on Wednesday, October 4th, live streamed over YouTube beginning at Noon EDT.

The Pixel 2 is expected to come to market priced at $649 (64GB of storage) and $749 (128GB of storage). The 5-inch display features a 1080 x 1920 resolution, with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The Pixel 2XL has thinner bezels all around, but the 6-inch screen will not give you that edge-to-edge look seen with other phones like the Essential Phone, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8+.  The screen's resolution weighs in at 1440 x 2880 (QHD+) and the aspect ratio of 18:9 matches the ratio seen on several 2017 high-end phones. Pricing for the Pixel 2 XL is rumored to be $849 (64GB of storage) and $949 (128GB of storage).

The overall look of both phones, especially the back of each unit, marks them as being Pixels even though this year's models are made by two different companies. Similar to last year, the rear covers feature a fingerprint scanner and two-tone coloring. Check out the latest images of the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL by clicking on the slideshow below.

The XL2 is sporting a G6 like design.....I like it. As for the Pixel 2, as long as it really does have just a 5in screen those bezels aren't so bad. At least they don'y look like iPhones this time around.

I like the look of the XL2, but the size is holding me back. I ran a comparison to the V30, and with those bezels, it's larger than the Pixel XL and almost as big as the Nexus 6P. I want something smaller, so it might be the Pixel 2 or V30 for me.

How can you run an accurate comparison between the V30 and XL2 without knowing the dimensions or screen ratio of the XL2, they both have 6in screens after all. if you want smaller then buy an S8 or G6 and you'll get that.

We know the XL2 and V30 have the (probably identical) 6" OLED screen. So I put the leaked XL2 render next to the V30 and resized it in PA's size comparison calibration tool until the screens matched. Then I put the render next to the calibrated size comparo of the V30, Pixel XL, and 6P. It's sized between the XL and 6P. I have too much time on my hands.

The Pixel Gen2 XL has perfect bezels imo, gives the front an extra accent.

Allows for larger ducts for the speaker and earpiece but it would be great if it had dual front speakers, good FFC with OIS and maybe flash. The extra bezel thickness can led itself to resistance to breaking as it is on various phones like the Moto Z Force.

It does, and that's a good thing. The original iPhone design was gorgeous.

Are people really obsessed with bezels? Is it a deciding factor to buy a phone? What it is so fascinating (or disgusting) about them?

"Easier to hold" though that is always subjective even if it makes the phone smaller, I found the LG G6 more comfortable than the Galaxy S8, but many others disagree and find the flat screen odd. I don't find the flat screen odd because it does a good job with a flush earpiece receiver. The HTC U11 has large bezels but not an uncomfortable design.

All phones are made in a way to be "easier to hold" but I don't understand the obsession with the slim bezels trend. Maybe OEMs couldn't come up with new features so they resorted to slim bezels? Who knows?

Eh? Isn't it obvious? The two main features I and most people like in a mobile phone is 1. For it to be mobile 2. For it to be an excellent media consumption device. Smaller the bezels, both of the two most important factors of a phone shoot up by a large margin. The ultimate phone form factor would be tablet size display with old 5 inch display handset dimensions , mobility and pocket ability. Until foldable displays exist, best way to inch towards that goal, is you guessed it! Small bezels!

Less bezel means more screen. It is not about bezels, it's all about screens.

They may have slimmed the bezels on the Pixel 2 XL....but that partial-glass two tone rear is horrendous, and actually looks worse than the partial glass rears of the first Pixel devices. They need new designers.
