Pegatron beefs up assembly line head count just before the next iteration of the iPhone starts production

Pegatron beefs up assembly line head count just before the next iteration of the iPhone starts production
Tong Zixian is the Chairman of contract manufacturer Pegatron. One of the devices that is assembled in its factories is the Apple iPhone. Mr. Zixian revealed at a stockholders meeting yesterday that the company has hired a number of new factory workers. These new employees are expected to handle the huge number of iPhones that the company will be assembling over the next few months.

Apple is expected to offer a 4.7-inch Apple iPhone 6s and a 5.5-inch Apple iPhone 6s Plus phablet this year. Both models should be unveiled in September, as usual. Production of the two handsets should start before August and we expect to see a new 12MP camera on both versions of the phone, sporting a sensor from Sony. The current iPhone models feature an 8MP camera on the back. Both phones will be powered by the Apple A9 chipset and should include 2GB of  LPDDR4 RAM.

The next iteration of the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus could include the Force Touch feature found on the Apple Watch. With Force Touch, the iPhone can differentiate between a light touch and a heavy touch on the screen. There is some speculation that the feature will be used to fast forward video being played on the phone, or to raise the volume of the speakers on the device.

Besides Pegatron, Foxconn is the other main contract manufacturer involved in producing Apple devices.

Thanks for the tip!

I hope so. They always slaughter us in terms of launch sales and sales in general. Ouch. Such a great phone. I hate Apple.

For the first time since the iPhone came out, I'm wondering if it'll be good, instead of how good it'll be. Ios 8 coupled with the 6+ basically being obsolete as far as ios9 goes, has me wondering big time.

Let's hope the next iteration of the iPhone does indeed offer these upgrades, darrk. I had actually taken the 6 plus back for the S6 Edge, only to return the S6 Edge and go back to the 6 plus. Android is nice, and the S6 Edge is an awesome piece of hardware, but its just not for me, sadly. I prefer the iOS ecosystem, the user experience, and quite frankly, I'm just not a fan of Google services.

I'm gonna post my 6 plus on Craigslist. If the next iPhone delivers, I'll get it for sure. For now, I'm just gonna use the edge. I'm as impressed with it, as I am disappointed with my iPhone this year. I still prefer the ios eco system too. I'm just so frigging frustrated with 8

Wow. I can dig it, though. I loved most things about the S6 Edge, but I'm just not a fan of Google services. I actually prefer "forked" Android, like what Amazon offers, as opposed to Google Android.

You know dark, I cycle thru the "S" models and never had consistent issues or hardware problems. I know others experience problems with certain iPhones. My wife's iPhone 5 battery percentage numbers jump once in a while since iOS8... I just turned off the percentage indicator, because the battery icon is still showing correct amounts. My 5S - no issues. I was also very pleased with iPhone 3GS all thru iOS 6.x.x. The phone virtually went thru 85% of change in software and added features and it ran good up until I sold it for $100 and got a 5S in 2013. Maybe Steve Jobs persistance to build flawless experience is dying off, but my 5S is really good with iOS8.3 and appart from a few visual glitches like buttons overlap in early iOS8 version - it was great. So here's for the 6S to put away those woes... but I gotta try android again - with App Permissions and new material design look - it's enticing to try android again. Hopefully they'll add Native "Find My Friends" equivalent and I'm good to go for 2 years. Always wanted to try Android "Full Term" but it didnt even take 30 days for the S4 to go back 2 years ago...

I need to see some improvements bro. It just hasn't been a good experience with the 6 plus/ios 8.

Oh I believe you, there's a reason the customer satisfaction rating slipped to Android OEM levels - it was always in mid 90's now it's with Note and Galaxy models at mid 80's... I believe even below the Note 4 which is at 86... So yeah, Tim gotta put a more demanding QC team when it comes to software upgrades. Maybe the iOS9 made individually for each device is the answer. Apple is desperately trying to conform to consumer demands, smaller update installation files while adding more and more features and UI enhancements - it had to blow a hole somewhere... Not making an excuse for Apple, just that you're not the only one they may loose due to these oversights...

Well, I hope they get it right with iOS 9. I'm really beginning to enjoy what iOS has to offer, and would hate for the 6 plus to be the end of the road. I like using the 6 plus as my secondary device. It compliments my Passport very well.

Excellent post Alik. They need to go ahead and spec out the phone, and give it the features while keeping the cost the same. It's to the point where I've gotten really frustrated with their game plan. It's all about the end user experience with me, and 8 hasn't even remotely delivered what I expect. I'm still an ios guy, but I also love android/touchwiz. The s6 edge has been a fantastic phone for me, and I love what they've done looks, hardware, software, and end user experience wise. Apple is slowly losing me, cause they're not really being cutting edge anymore, just jacking android/touchwiz features and putting their own little twists on them. Under spec'd, obsolete after 1 year is getting under my skin bro.

If the iPhone 6s plus offers these goodies, I definitely will be upgrading from my 6 plus to the next iteration of the iPhone. If not, this will be my last iPhone, as I will upgrade to something else.

..a WP man myself, but the intended 4.7 inch Iphone has the potential to be a real killer, perfect size.

But then you have the huge iPhone bezzel, which make the phone bigger than it needs to be. Hell, my G2 is the exact size as an iPhone 6.
