Oppo N1 mini tipped in India with "revolutionary" 24MP ultra HD camera

Oppo N1 mini tipped in India with
Oppo has tipped the Oppo N1 mini on its Indian Facebook page. Showing a picture of the device with the words "Mini in size, Max on fun," the manufacturer's caption on top of the image reads, "Revolutionary 24 Mega Pixels Ultra HD Camera, Coming Soon!" The phone was originally unveiled late in May, but has yet to be released.

The 24MP camera is actually a 13MP camera that swivels front back to front, allowing you to use the same lens for rear-facing and front-facing pictures. The Sony lens employed by Oppo for the N1 mini has a sensor size of 1/3.2" and uses the Super Zoom mode first found on the Oppo Find 7, to produce 24MP photos. On the Oppo Find 7, ten pictures can be consolidated into one 50MP image.

The Oppo N1 mini offers a 5 inch screen with resolution of 720 x 1280 for a 294ppi pixel density. A MediaTek octa-core chip is under the hood. 1GB of RAM is on board, and a 2140mAh battery keeps the lights on. No word yet on a specific launch date or price.

That sensor size is too small for a camera centric phone , the pixels will be less than the average size of 1.12.

How could a 24mp camera actually be 13mp?

Mathematics. Just like a 16" pizza isn't twice the size of an 8" pizza. Twice as wide, sure, but more than twice the area in the 16". Plus sensor shape and whatever overlap there might be.

Oops, misread the article. And if you think mathematics can relate to MP then you clearly shouldn't be talking. Do you even know what MP are and what they are used for? Don't mean to sound rude

since mp count is literally the number of pixels, the pizza comparison doesn't work here. the question remains: how could a 24mp camera actually be 13mp?

Didn't you read the article? '...uses the Super Zoom mode first found on the Oppo Find 7, to produce 24MP photos...' So its essentially a 13MP hardware, but it can do 24MP software, similar to how the Oppo FInd 7 can do 50MP images using software from its 13MP hardware camera...

How Ultra can the photos get when the sensor size is still 1/3.2"? At least make it a 1/2.3" and higher MP count for 'Ultra HD' photos (not literally UHD photos but high res etc...)
