OnePlus smartphones tend to offer flagship features without the traditionally-high prices. However, when it comes to water and dust resistance, the devices have consistently lagged behind the competition.

The primary reason for this is the added cost that comes with obtaining an official IP certification. But in a bid to please its customers, recent OnePlus smartphones have included some degree of water resistance. Now, ahead of their introduction later this month, an improved level of water resistance has been teased for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro.

In a short 30-second video, OnePlus explains that “water resistant ratings for phones cost you money,” something it isn’t a fan of. Because of this, the company jokingly says it purchased “something less expensive" – a bucket – with the goal of demonstrating the higher level of water resistance that the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro will support.

During the video, OnePlus clearly throws a OnePlus 7 Pro unit into a bucket full of water. Nevertheless, it goes on to warn that its customers shouldn't do this. Moreover, just like the brands that do choose to IP certify their devices, OnePlus has confirmed that its warranty won't cover water damage on the OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7 Pro.
