Nokia 6 starts receiving Android 7.1.1 Nougat update before going global

The first Nokia-branded smartphone launched by HMD Global is getting the new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update before many flagships handsets. Although Nokia 6 is exclusively available in China for the moment, HMD announced in late February that the smartphone would be launched worldwide in Q2.

However, before going global, Nokia 6 will be updated to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Even though it might seem surprising at first glance, HMD was pretty clear last since the beginning of the year when it said its smartphones would get major OS updates as quickly as possible.

If you're lucky enough to own a Nokia 6, then you should know this isn't a sizeable update, as the download file weighs in at 370MB. Keep in mind though that you will need at least 620MB free storage in order to install the update on the Nokia 6.

According to the official changelog, the update enhanced power saving and background management, and adds support for 4G/3G dual-SIM dual-standby. Also, the Nokia USB driver receives an update, along with the version of preload app.

Last but not least, the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the Nokia 6 includes the April security patch, which has been recently released by Google.
