NVIDIA may launch new, more powerful SHIELD Android TV box soon
NVIDIA kind of hit the jackpot with the SHIELD TV, one of the best Android TV boxes available on the market. However, since the device was launched four years ago, it has started to show its age, even though an updated model was released back in 2017.

Apparently, NVIDIA have been trying to refresh its Android TV box lineup for a couple of years now, but most of the company's projects failed. Fortunately, one of the many projects that NVIDIA has been working on all these years has been given the green light, according to XDA Developers.

The codename of an upgraded NVIDIA SHIELD unit has been recently spotted in the Google Play Developer Console Device Catalog, which confirms we might get a new Android TV box pretty soon.

The main differences between the 2017 SHIELD TV and the upcoming model are the operating system and chipset. The new Android TV box will ship with Android 9.0 Pie on board, as opposed to the current generation that runs Android 8.0 Oreo.

Next, the upcoming SHIELD TV is likely to be based on a new version of the Tegra X1 chipset, which is slightly better performance-wise and more power efficient. Since the Devices Catalog listing doesn't contain any details about specs, it's impossible to tell whether or not the information in the report is accurate.

Still, we can safely assume that the next SHIELD TV will be more powerful and power efficient if NVIDIA decides to bring a new one to the market, it's the logical choice when launching a new product.
