The iPhone Fold is expected to be unveiled next year, and this will be a great boon to the foldable phone market. Some analysts have said that foldables will remain a niche market until Apple launches a foldable phone. Between the media attention a foldable iPhone will receive, and the consumer attention, a brighter spotlight will cover foldable phones next year. As the first foldable iPhone, the device is bound to have some features that you have been longing for.
JP Morgan disseminates a report that mentioned the iPhone Fold
For example, investment house JP Morgan recently released an equity research report about Apple that included some comments about the iPhone Fold, which will be a book-style foldable similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold models. The report noted that the front-facing camera for the internal display on Apple's first foldable phone will be under the display and weigh in at 24MP. This tops the current under display front-facing cameras for Android foldables which are currently in the 4MP-8MP range.

Speaking about the display, Apple has reportedly solved one of the main issues affecting foldables from all manufacturers and that is the annoying crease on the internal screen. This is a major breakthrough. Website UDN says that the iPhone Fold will be the first foldable phone with an internal display not marred by the crease. While Samsung will be the source of the display, some of the credit belongs to Apple's internal components.
The internal display will weigh n at 7.8 inches with a 5.5 inch cover screen
Several sources say that when fully opened and unfolded, the inside screen will weigh in at 7.8 inches. The cover screen will measure 5.5 inches. Instead of Face ID, biometric fingerprint sensor Touch ID makes its return. The iPhone Fold will sport four cameras including a hole-punch camera for the cover screen, the aforementioned 24MP under display front-facing camera for the internal screen, and a dual-lens 48MP set-up on the back of the phone.

Highly regarded analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the first iPhone foldable, expected to be named the iPhone Fold, will use high-density battery cells. Sources out of South Korea say that the capacity will be in the range of 5400 mAh-5800 mAh. Instant Digital, a leaker from China, says that the battery powering the phone will "definitely" be larger than 5000 mAh. That means there is a good chance that the iPhone Fold battery will be the largest capacity cell found on any iPhone. The current record is the 5088 mAh battery powering the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
These estimates don't approach the 6000 mAh cell powering the vivo X Fold 5, or the Honor Magic V5's silicon-carbon 5820 mAh battery. Still, for Apple. it is much more important that the iPhone Fold's battery tops the 4400 mAh capacity of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's 4822 mAh-which it does. According to Setsuna Digital's Weibo post, Apple has yet to choose which supplier it will be purchasing the iPhone Fold's batteries from.
A second-generation iPhone Fold will be produced n 2027 according to reliable analyst
Kuo wrote some other notes about the iPhone Fold on his website. He says that the Touch ID sensor will be located on the side of the phone. He also says that when the iPhone Fold is closed, it will measure 9mm–9.5mm thick; when open, it will measure 4.5mm–4.8mm. That compares to 8.9mm (closed) and 4.2mm (open) for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The numbers for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold are 10.8mm (closed) and 5.2mm (open).
Kuo adds that mass production will start during Q4 of 2026 and the second-generation iPhone Fold will go into mass production during the second half of 2027. Kuo forecasts 3 million to 5 million iPhone Fold units to ship in 2026 with 20 million, including the second-gen iPhone Fold, to ship in 2027.
Fubon Research forecasts a price of $2,399 for the iPhone Fold while other estimates range between $2,000 and $2,500. Either way, the device is a good bet to become the highest priced iPhone of all time.
We recently passed along a report that said Apple has started building 100 iPhone Fold units that will be used for engineering verification and pre-production (EVT) testing. These devices will have the same functionality as the final version of the phone with a design that will be closer to the final version of the first foldable iPhone.
