Forget Galaxy Buds. The first repairable earbuds will soon have a successor

Your Galaxy Buds may be great and all, but can you repair them when they break? Of course not. But there's a company dedicated to transparency and repairability, and it's gearing up to release the second iteration of its repairable earbuds.

Fairbuds 2 product images have leaked

Fairbuds come from the same Dutch company behind the most repairable and ethical smartphone on the market—Fairphone.

The first model was quite odd in design, mainly due to the fact that Fairbuds had seven replaceable parts.

Now, Dutch outlet NieuweMobiel has posted product images of the upcoming successor to the first Fairbuds, expectedly named Fairbuds 2. In fact, Fairphone has already confirmed the release window for the Fairbuds 2. The new earbuds are expected in Q4 2026.

But now we have a glimpse at the new design, which raises some important questions.

Fairbuds 2 earbuds look almost conventional

The original Fairbuds used a rounded design, but in the pictures, we see a more traditional stem-style design for the Fairbuds 2.

This poses some repairability questions. Fairphone itself describes the new buds as "modular," so we might get replaceable parts once again. The original Fairbuds had replaceable batteries in their oval bodies, but most stem-style earbuds have glued-in batteries in order to save space.

There's a visible line where the stems meet the rest of the body of the Fairbuds 2, so the stems might be replaceable altogether.
