Samsung announces the Vodafone 360 H1 and М1 – handsets based on LiMo R2
Just a few weeks ago we told you about a Linux-based device made by Samsung that would roll out through Vodafone. Well, both companies seem to have lived up to the rumour and earlier today, 24 September, announced not just one, but two handsets that are to utilize the new version (R2) of the platform developed by LiMo Foundationthe Vodafone 360 H1 and M1. The software itself looks pretty promising and the development team claims it allows comfy usage of social networking and carrier specific services, some of them GPS-based (say, the app that tells you where the nearest tube station is). All of the extra features are entirely in character of carrier´s on-line platform called Vodafone 360 that is planned to replace the existing Live! service. It will also allow wireless synchronization of data and come with access to the carrier´s application store.

Both handsets look quite promising and their 3D interface will be able to unleash the true potential of the new services. The Vodafone 360 H1 sports a 3.5-inch AMOLED screen, 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and 16GB built-in memory, while the M1 comes is a bit simpler with its 3.2-inch TFT screen, 3-megapixel camera, 1GB memory and HSDPA support and lack of Wi-Fi functionality.

The scheduled start of Vodafone 360 service is just before Christmas for the UK, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Portugal, so we we can safely assume the Vodafone 360 H1 and M1 are about to roll out at about that time as well. The set of new services that the carrier´s platform is to offer will be accessible via other handsets as well, although it probably won´t be fully functional as it should be with both Samsung-made devices. You can see a demo of Vodafone 360 in action here.
