16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 only has about 9GB free for users

16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 only has about 9GB free for users
Have you ever wondered why the term "bloatware" has come into prominence? Well, look no farther than the Samsung Galaxy S4 to get a solid example. According to users who have gotten their hands on the 16GB model of the Galaxy S4, the device is so
16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 only has about 9GB free for users
loaded up with bloat that users are only left with 9GB of usable space on the internal storage.

Of course, the S4 does offer an SD card slot, so it isn't so terrible, but no one wants to buy a brand new smartphone that has 45% of the internal storage used already. It seems that no one at Samsung has really bothered asking: is this too much? There are some legitimately cool software features on the Galaxy S4, but there are also a ton of features that sound cool on a marketing sheet, but won't be used by most users.

All of those marketing features are adding up and really cutting into the usable space for customers. Fresh from the box, an S4 will have only 8.82GB available to the user. So, if you're going for the 16GB model, definitely look into an SD card.

the sd card isnt a problem with games. i had the desire hd which came with one gb memory and 8gb external. i never installed a game on the main memory. you can always move the game to your sd card.

If you are willing to pay £700 or £800 respectively, plus the only version being marketed in the UK is the 16gb variant at £600! Don't think paying for a premium smart phone but getting a low rent build smartphone is on the agenda.

HTC made a great looking One X and said it was greater... but the fact is people liked the Galaxy S3 better (same reasons : better / replacable battery, sd card slot)... It will be the same this time. i couldnt care less of the UI .. i would just root it and install ASOP when it becomes available. why would phone arena give the HTC one 9.1 and the GS4 9,3 otherwise.

lets put it this way S4 >= One (condition : People prefer Samsung phones more than HTC - Fact)

Don't get me wrong, I like HTC design, and even sense. But I'm sick and tired of being screwed by HTC. I mean the thunderdolt was the biggest POS of a phone I have ever owned and there was nothing I could do about it. They fixed many of it's issues with the rezound except for a key piece, the stupid fonking battery. Then, after just a hair over a year they have all but confirmed it won't see an official update past ICS. Then, my fiance's flyer and my evo view are both stuck at terrible HC. I'm sick of giving them money with no support after the sale. I'm so happy there are 6 blind fanboys or paid shills that love HTC so much they will blindly support them, but I am done with them until they prove to me they will support a phone for more than 6 months after the sale. I'm almost ready to go back to moto for this reason. Since google took over they really seem to be listening to us.

Anyway, I can't really disagree with most of what you said.

Will everyone just please stop with this removable battery and sd card slot thing. People only liked s3 better because it was marketed and advertised heavily compared to htc. It is a fact that s4 will sell more than the new one and why?because samsung has too many fanboys and they will advertise once again nonstop, people will be interested with the new phone because of its gimmicky features that you will probably never use. Did the iPhone sell well because it lacks a removable battery and sd card slot?C'mon, people don't buy their phones just because of that factor.I bet most of you who keep on saying removable battery and expandable storage haven't even opened the back of your phones yet

Sammy fanboys are no worse than the HTC fanboys. HTC fanboys completely ignore the fact that HTC will cut off support after 6 months. Something that Samsung seems to have gotten exponentially better at in the last year. At this point the only two manufacturers I will consider is Moto and sammy because they are the only ones that care about the product after it's released anymore.

Well to be honest,I am not a fan boy of a particular company nor am I a hater(except for Apple)if you look at my profile,I had, have and want a Samsung device. But you can't expect me to like everything about the company. Take note, this is for my opinion only-I don't care about updates,in fact I'm still running ics4.0.4 on my one x even though I know there's already a 4.1jb update. Even when the time comes HTC stops supporting their old phones, there's always some custom ROM available for your device and besides you won't be keeping that phone of yours for many years,by next time you would have probably bought a new phone already

Bulls**t ! Cyanogen mod is so amazing works just as we'll no way I am going back to s**t wiz rom !

s**twiz is just too bloated with stupid s**t , android already have Android Beam , they replace it with a more bloaty s**tty S beam that only works for some Samsung devices . There is already google now yet they have to add in S voice that doesn't work time , touchwiz is too heavy , too bloated , it takes up so much space on your phone for things that I don't think it's worth it

Both features are a must for some, especially when out in the field where a spare battery allows you to continue working as opposed to looking for a power source to charge from. I've had many friends carry around flat "other" phones becase the battery just don't last.... or carry a charging brick with them, which defeats the purpose of a compact phone. It also proved to be worth it while travelling overseas while out from dusk to dawn capturing your memories.... I never missed a shot

Speaking for myself, the spare battery allows me to use my phone differently, without any real worry about my battery life. I have read countless times about people who say that get a day or two out of a battery. Well I don't, ever. I don't want my usage dictated by the battery life. The freedom this gives me, outweighs the cost of the second battery and charger.

What is the downside to a removeable battery?

Guaranteed,my next phone will also have a removeable battery (yeah, and an SD card as well)

I do have a note 2 spare battery and 64g sd card with 48 g worth of movies and 6 g worth of music. I do travel a bit in my work without a place to charge my phone.

I respect that you might not need a spare battery boost but there are people that do. No sdcard and removable battery would be a down grade to me. I rather keep using the note 2.

I'd like to see statistics on the number of android users who actually root their devices. I'd be surprised if it's more than 1%. Yet every time there's an article or complaint about bloatware or clunky proprietary UIs or lack of OS updates, the answer is "just root it"! As if this is something most users have a clue or the stomach for. Personally I'd rather not void my warranty, since my last two phones have needed warranty replacement.

Triangle away gets rid of any proof you ever rooted the phone. But ya if you root an HTC One your screwed, there is no way to reset the warranty void crap.

That's my point. That's the reason the OEM's need to support their hardware for at least 18 month after EOL or 24 months from release, whichever is sooner.

And yes, HTC/VZW are still supporting the Rezound with minor updates, but there's no commitment to upgrade to JB 4.1 let alone anything higher. I chose the phone over the GNex because I trusted HTC hardware over Samsung, but the lack of JB upgrade really bothers me. And Sense is largely to blame.

What good are a couple of stupid bug fix updates? That's not what I term as real support. I have both the Gnex and the Rezound, and honestly I love the rezounds hardware better, but software the Gnex can't be beat.

i think it's mostly because of that Crapdragon under the hood. the S3 lacks NEON support so i doubt the Rezound could handle JB's higher frame rates with a skin as heavy as Sense 3.5, 4+ or whatever version their legacy devices are getting with JB.

That's what I don't get about Project Butter though. It makes Android less laggy, but you need a faster processor to run it? The S3 may be slow(ish), but it was in a ton of devices including the NA Galaxy S2s. I think the issue is not that JB can't run on the phone, it's that Sense 4+ can't. They care more about Sense than Android.
