YouTube just unveiled Custom Feeds, and I'm ready to stop babysitting my Home feed

Your mood, not your watch history, could soon decide what shows up first.

YouTube Custom Feeds are officially on the way, and they let you build your own Home feed tabs just by typing what you're in the mood to watch. YouTube announced the feature at Made on YouTube 2026, and it's coming soon to US users on the web, TVs and phones like the Pixel 11 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

YouTube Custom Feeds turn a typed prompt into its own Home tab

YouTube announced Custom Feeds in a post on its blog today, describing it as a dedicated tab for specific moods, routines or your latest interests that you can reach from the Homepage. You type out what you want in plain words, and YouTube's own examples include "evening wind down with long documentaries," "new DIY creators" and "witty podcasts for my daily 30-minute commute."

You can save several of these feeds, and each one refreshes on its own with new recommendations, so it isn't a one-time search that goes stale. YouTube says Custom Feeds will be available to users in the US on the web, mobile and TVs soon, though it didn't give a specific date.

Why a Custom Feed beats fighting YouTube's Home algorithm

YouTube's regular Home feed is shaped by what you watch, like and subscribe to, and anyone who has clicked on one random video knows how quickly it can overreact.

YouTube hasn't said whether Custom Feeds will change how that main feed behaves, but they give us a way around it. Since each feed lives in its own tab, it appears your wind-down documentaries and your DIY projects can stay neatly apart.

YouTube also isn't the first to hand over the controls. X launched Grok-powered Custom Timelines in April, and this report walks through how it lets you pin topics from a list of more than 75 to your home tab, though it started as an early-access perk for Premium subscribers on iOS.

Instagram went a different route with its Your Algorithm tool, which shows an AI summary of what it thinks you're into and lets you add or remove topics. Instagram also announced it's now available across Feed, Reels and Explore globally in English.

If you mainly scroll X or Instagram, this doesn't change anything for you. Still, YouTube's version stands out because you describe a whole mood or routine in your own words, while X and Instagram have you work with individual topics.

Who gets it first on the web, phones and TVs

If you're in the US and watch YouTube on your phone, computer or TV, Custom Feeds should show up for you at some point, though YouTube only says it's coming "soon." There's no word on other countries yet, so everyone outside the US will likely have to wait for a later expansion, as tends to happen with YouTube's newer features.

YouTube finally admits its Home feed needs our help

I think this is the most useful change YouTube announced at Made on YouTube 2026 for regular viewers, mainly because it quietly admits what many of us have felt for years: the Home feed overreacts. Hopefully, YouTube brings Custom Feeds outside the US quickly too, and I'd personally love to see a way to share a custom feed with friends down the line.
