The second App Developer Challenge

Following last year's edition, Verizon Frontline has now launched the second annual Verizon Frontline App Developer Challenge.
The idea is to come up with a cutting-edge mobile app. One that truly helps and empowers first responders and public safety agencies to operate "more safely, efficiently and effectively". The challenge calls on all developers, engineers and tech innovators across the US who think they are up to the task.
As pointed out above, the grand prize is $25,000, but in order to secure it, one has to come up with an app concept that's truly innovative, impactful and practical. Think about how to leverage mobile connectivity and high-end technologies to address challenges faced by first responders on the front lines.
Last year, it was an AI-powered drone intelligence app that won the big prize. It's called Apex Eye and it's developed by Rian Karim. However, all three finalists from the last year have further developed their solutions with the Verizon Frontline Innovation Program.

Phases and deadlines
So, there are three phases of the competition:
Recommended For You
Phase 1: Call for entry (October 28, 2026 – April 2, 2027): In the next roughly five months, developers across the US can submit their app concepts and proposals. They need to explain in detail how their idea will help first responders.
Phase 2: Judging and finalist selection: There'll be a panel of public safety experts. They'll evaluate the submissions and they'll select the top concepts from the pool.
Phase 3: Live finals in Washington, D.C. (week of May 18, 2027): Finally, three finalists will present their app concepts live to a panel of public safety leaders and the $25,000 grand prize winner will be announced.
Cory Davis, Verizon Frontline's vice president, said the strong ideas presented during the challenge's first year encouraged the company to bring it back. He emphasized that first responders deal with complicated situations daily and need reliable, innovative mobile tools to do their jobs. Verizon is excited to see how this year's participants use modern technology to address those challenges and help emergency personnel protect their communities.
The Verizon Frontline App Developer Challenge is currently open (you can click the hyperlink to learn more from Verizon itself) to developers across the US. Best of luck!
