Trump T1 Phone has a much bigger problem than being a copy of an old mid-range phone

A year after Trump Mobile announced the Trump T1 Phone, the promises of a device made in America that would challenge the status quo haven’t materialized. The iPhone 17, Galaxy S26, and Pixel 11 continue to dominate the US smartphone market, and for some very good reasons.

On one hand, the Trump T1 Phone doesn’t appear to even be shipping to customers yet, but on the other, it appears that’s the least of its problems.

Nobody seems to like the Trump phone

It appears that hardly anyone really likes the Trump T1 Phone, which could be the bigger reason for its lack of success. In a recent poll, we asked you what was the most appealing part of the device, and the answers should worry the folks at Trump Mobile.

Almost 94% of you said that there’s nothing appealing about the T1 Phone. That shouldn’t come as a major surprise, considering the device is basically a copy of the two-year-old HTC U24 Pro.

What is the most appealing part of the Trump T1 Phone?

The very few differences between the two devices include a different shape of the speaker grille and the repositioned flash on the main camera. There’s also a slight battery upgrade on Trump T1 Phone, but the charging speed is down to 30W, compared to the 60W charging on the old HTC.

If there’s one thing to like, it would be the design

While the vast majority didn’t like anything in the Trump T1 Phone, there were still some people who were attracted by it somehow. Over 3% of you said that they liked the design of the new device.

Apparently the golden color and the American flag with 11 instead of 13 stripes have their merit.

About 1.4% were attracted by the specs, and another 1.7% thought the pricing of the device was appealing. The Trump T1 Phone is currently offered for $499, which is said to be a “promotional price.” That’s slightly cheaper than the HTC U24 Pro’s current price in the US, which could be considered attractive.

In terms of specs, the T1 Phone feels like a perfect mid-ranger from 2024 thanks to the following:

  • 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate
  • 50MP main + 8MP ultra wide + 50MP telephoto cameras
  • 50MP selfie camera
  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset
  • 12GB RAM and 512GB storage
  • 5,000 mAh battery

While far from flagship territory, these specs are more than enough to run the pre-installed Android 15 without many issues. It still remains unknown how many updates the T1 Phone is going to receive.

First, make it exist

If I can give one free advice to the folks at Trump Mobile, it’d be to release their future devices faster. If the Trump T1 Phone was released faster, it could’ve been just a year-old mid-range device with questionable design. That wouldn’t have solved all its problems, but it would’ve made it at least a little more interesting.
