We've already heard of the potential Xiaomi 17 Max, yet another installment in the already populous (and popular) Xiaomi 17 family.
This phone is rumored to be a large-screened flagship with an enviably large battery, probably a cell with a capacity of 8,000 mAh. Yes, it's true that some phones already offer 10,000 mAh capacity batteries, but 8,000 mAh is a jolly good capacity, don't you think? Of course you do, since Samsung seems stuck at 5,000 mAh for its maxed-out Galaxy S Ultra for the seventh year in a row.
Back to the point: there's a new portion of rumors regarding the Xiaomi 17 Max and it has to do with its camera setup.
Xiaomi is not playing games

As Digital Chat Station's (one of the most prolific leakster out there) information has it, the potential Xiaomi 17 Max will try to stun potential buyers with a 200 MP main camera Samsung sensor of the ISOCELL HP series. Some claim this could be the (yet unannounced) ISOCELL HPE, a 1/1.4-inch sensor, which is considered large for mobile devices.

Next, the dedicated telephoto on the phone could utilize a 50 MP Sony sensor from the IMX8xx series. This one could be significantly smaller than the main one at 1/1.953 inches diagonally, but, be it as it may, that's still physically larger than what Samsung offers on its flagships. For reference, the Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 1/3.52-inch sensor and a 1/2.52-inch one for its zoom cameras.
Finally, the Xiaomi 17 Max could come with a 50 MP ultra-wide camera, though there isn't any available info on the type of sensor this snapper would get.
The Leica collaboration will continue with the Xiaomi 17 Max, per the aforementioned claims. That's great. I'm a big fan of the colors and hues that recent Xiaomi flagships produce.
What else is there?
Apart from the 8,000 mAh battery (with 100 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging), the Xiaomi 17 Max is reportedly packing a large 6.9-inch AMOLED display with ultra-thin bezels on all sides and a powerful speaker setup.
Under the hood, it is said to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, consistent with the rest of the 17-series lineup. Xiaomi has not confirmed the device or its release window, but the leak comes from a reputable source, suggesting an official announcement could happen soon.
The most significant difference, besides the battery, could be the possibility of the 17 Max not having a rear display like the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max: personally, I'm not a fan of such secondary screens, so I'm glad it's gone.
Will it come out of China? We'll wait and see.
Was Xiaomi right to ditch the rear screen on the 17 Max?
