The iPhone Ultra surfaced in a gorgeous new Red color, but there's a wild twist

Is the iPhone Ultra also getting a hero color like the iPhone 18 Pro? Here's the truth.

The iPhone Ultra will be Apple's first foldable, and rumors suggest that the device will be available in two shades: white and black. Some also believe that it may come only in a white version. But a reliable tipster has now shared renders of the foldable iPhone in an entirely new color.

Does that mean the iPhone Ultra will launch in three color options? Perhaps not.

iPhone Ultra in a completely new red colour

Multiple iPhone Ultra renders have been shared by different sources so far, and in all of them, the device has appeared in either black or white shades. This has created the perception that the phone will be available only in the two classic color options, unlike the iPhone 18 Pro, which is expected to launch in bold finishes like burgundy, light blue, silver, and space gray.

However, one of the most trusted leakers, Evan Blass, recently made a new post on X claiming that the device is also getting a red version. He then made another post in which he showcased the foldable in all three color options.

Do you really want Apple to launch the iPhone Ultra in red?

Something feels off

If you observe the shared images closely, you will realize there are plenty of things that don't align with Apple's recent developments. For instance, the battery indicator design in the phone is not what you get in iOS 27. In fact, it looks very similar to what you had in the old iOS 26 version.

This gave an indication that the image might be AI-generated, especially since no other source corroborated the idea of the foldable coming in the red color. Turns out, it was indeed a complete fabrication. Mark Gurman refuted Evan Blass's post by mentioning that the foldable iPhone isn't coming in red or green colors.

Some interesting details about the iPhone Ultra have surfaced online. Check them out:

It could be the Xiaomi 18 Fold

In addition to claiming that Evan Blass's post about the red version of the iPhone Ultra is false, Gurman also mentioned that these renders came from Xiaomi. I did some digging and found that it might be related to the Xiaomi 18 Fold, whose recently surfaced image showcased the device in the same red color option. In case you are not aware of this Xiaomi phone, it's going to be a passport-size foldable from the company, which looks similar to the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the upcoming iPhone Ultra.

Xiaomi recently confirmed at an event that the foldable would launch sometime in September and would run on the company's own processor, the XRING 03. It's the successor to the XRING 01 that is found in the Xiaomi 15s.

Apple fans really liked the red shade

While we might not see the iPhone Ultra in the red finish, judging by online sentiment, it appears that users will welcome this color with open arms if Apple surprises us all by launching the phone in this color. Most comments on a relevant Reddit post basically say that the red hue looks absolutely cool and gorgeous.

An iPhone in red? We have seen this before

Red is certainly not a new color for Apple. It was one of the many finishes in which the iPhones released between 2017 and 2022 were available. I, personally, have the iPhone SE 2 in a red shade, and honestly, it looks absolutely stunning.

The iPhone 14 and the iPhone SE 3 were the last devices from the company that were released in a bright red finish. The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is expected to be available in dark cherry, which might look similar, but it's definitely not the bright red color that many other Apple fans and I miss in the latest iPhones.

All that said, the Cupertino giant has now made it official that its launch event is taking place on September 9. That means we're just days away from officially knowing everything about the first foldable from Apple, including the color options in which it'll be available.
