The Galaxy Z TriFold beast could be way cheaper than previously expected… but still pricier than the iPhone Fold

How would you like a 10-inch display on your phone? Wait, is that even a phone, or a tablet?!

Galaxy tri-foldable device.
The era of tri-foldables is upon us, and the world awaits the Galaxy Z TriFold – the good news is that Samsung's upcoming beast of a phone might be cheaper than previously expected.

A price tag that's under $3,000

Up until five minutes ago, tech-savvy fans were expecting the Galaxy Z TriFold to be really expensive – and, at the end of the day, it will surely be a premium-priced device – but not $3,000, as previously rumored.

The latest claims speak of a price tag of "just" $2,499. Now, that's still light years away from the affordable category, but a solid $500 off this thing is great news either way.

Huawei's Mate XT tri-foldable, for reference, was sold at a starting price of $2,800, so Samsung is on to something here.

The rumored $2,499 price is $100 above the rumored price of the iPhone Fold, which is expected at $2,399, but, hey, you get a device that folds twice, instead of just once.

Why would you get a tri-fold?

What do I get for so much money?

According to reputable leaks, the device will feature a 10-inch internal display reaching 1600 nits peak brightness, paired with a 6.5-inch outer screen that can hit 2600 nits. The main camera is expected to use a 200 MP sensor, and the phone should include a rated 5,437mAh battery. A Snapdragon chipset is also planned, though the exact model has not been identified.

One unusual detail is the thickness of the phone's three folding sections, which reportedly vary slightly at 3.9mm, 4mm, and 4.2mm. It may not look perfectly symmetrical, but Samsung likely has functional reasons for the differences.

I have the money, now what?

Well, not so fast. The biggest disappointment about Galaxy Z TriFold is availability.

Current reports suggest the Galaxy Z TriFold will launch only in select markets, such as China, Singapore, the UAE, and South Korea. Europe and the US are not expected to receive the device when sales begin on December 5.

However, if you're that obsessed with Samsung's tri-foldable, importing a unit to the US or Europe should be possible.
