The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 won’t be able to keep the spotlight exclusively on itself this year due to the new Galaxy Z Wide Fold launching alongside it. However, that doesn’t mean that Samsung isn’t focusing on improving the successor to the excellent Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Not even close.
Aside from the expected annual improvements for Samsung’s upcoming foldable flagship — processor, storage, perhaps the modem too — there are two new possible changes.
Samsung recently unveiled a crease-free foldable display. If the company uses this technology for the Fold 8, then even the foldable iPhone will struggle to entice many customers.
The second upgrade, meanwhile, is something that is most likely set in stone.
According to a new report, Samsung has reduced the size of the front camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 by a significant margin.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 already saw drastic improvements in body thickness and display crease visibility. This is following that trend of cosmetic improvements that help a phone feel like a tangible upgrade.
According to the report, the front camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will measure 2.5 mm in diameter. For comparison, the front camera of the Fold 7 measures 3.7 mm in diameter.
The included renders show a clear visual upgrade, with the Fold 8 looking a lot sleeker with the smaller punch hole.
Last year, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 blew people away. No one was expecting Samsung to release a foldable that gave the competition a real run for its money. For the first time in generations, the company increased its sales expectations for its foldable segment.
Such major overhauls are difficult to execute every year, so the Fold 8 was never going to be as big of a leap forward as the Fold 7 was. However, a smaller front camera will still help the Fold 8 stand out.
It’s the incremental upgrades like this one that keep stacking up until one day you’ve got yourself a phone that feels just right.

BREAKING! The front camera cutout on the Fold7 measures 3.7mm, while the Fold8’s is only 2.5mm in diameter. Samsung appears to have adopted a new technology that significantly reduces the size of the front camera hole.
