The Google Photos app houses a bug that is driving some Pixel users crazy. On Reddit, a post from a subscriber with the username u/koroa stated that an update from a few months back ended up breaking the editing and sharing features of the Photos app, at least as far as Pixel users are concerned.
A screen recording shared on Reddit by a Pixel 11 Pro XL user showed a photo getting cropped using the Google Photos editor. Immediately, the bottom buttons on the screen became unresponsive. We've embedded this screen recording into this article.
On Reddit, a Google support rep made some suggestions such as:
Of course, all of this could also go away if Google were to send an update that exterminates this bug. We will keep an eye out for such a fix and if such an update appears, we will let you know.
Pixel users are finding themselves unable to easily share photos from the Google Photos app
Interestingly, the Redditor noted that the bug manifested itself on both his Pixel 9 Pro and his new Pixel 11 Pro. Once you edit a photo, the screen becomes unresponsive, making it impossible for you to type the email address of the person you want to share the image with. As we discuss later in this article, there is another way to share a video, but some Pixel users find it to be too time-consuming and are hoping that this bug gets exterminated soon.

In other words, once you edit a photo, you can share it by going directly to the Google Photos app. Once in the app, select the image you want to share from the gallery, and tap on "share." This allows you to share the image via other apps; it makes things pretty messy when sharing a single image, but it becomes a giant headache when you want to share multiple ones.
Based on Reddit posts, it seems that the Pixel 11 Pro XL, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9a, and the Pixel 8 are some of the models that have caught this bug.This is serious because the bug prevents Pixel users from sharing their pictures.
As one Google Photos user pointed out, when sharing an image with another person, it is annoying to go back to the gallery to tap share.

Another problem occurs after the image from Google Photos has been cropped or rotated. In that situation, you can tap on the share button all you want, but with the phone frozen and unable to record inputs, you won’t be getting anywhere. Google Photos also might create an unrequested duplicate of an image you edited, as a result of this bug.

A Google support rep suggests trying to exterminate the bug with these workarounds
On Reddit, a Google support rep made some suggestions such as:
- Clearing the cache. Go to: Settings > Apps > See all Apps > Photos app > Storage & Cache > Clear cache > Restart the device.
- Uninstall and reinstall Google Photos app updates. To uninstall app updates: Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Photos app > At the top right corner, tap on three vertical dots > Uninstall updates.
- To reinstall app updates: Go to Play Store app > Tap Profile icon (top right) > Manage apps and device > Under Overview (check for pending updates) > Update Photos app.
- Lastly, you can reboot your phone into Safe Mode and if the issue still occurs, it means a third-party app is causing this issue. Uninstall recently installed apps one at a time until the issue goes away, helping you catch whichever one is the culprit.
