The recently introduced Pixel 11 Pro phones come with HiLight, which is a notification system integrated into the rear camera bar. It is widely considered one of the star features of the latest Pro phones from Google. A new report suggests that Google is planning to add something new to the Pixel 11 Pro's HiLight feature.
It could get more colourful
The Pro-exclusive Pixel HiLight currently supports five different colors: teal, yellow, pink, white, and purple. A recent report, however, suggests that you will soon be able to choose from nine different colours.

In the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5, four new colors that the HiLight feature could soon support have been spotted. These are blue, cyan, green, and orange.

Pixel HiLight may work with messages
The HiLight capability currently activates only in two scenarios: when you receive a call from one of your favorite contacts and when you have a Gemini operation running in the background. However, while unveiling this feature, the Big G did mention that it would introduce new functions to HiLight in the future. Turns out, we could see a new capability being added to it very soon.
In addition to the above-mentioned colors, the following code has also been spotted in the latest Android beta build.
The code reportedly suggests that HiLight could receive support for messages as well. Most likely, the LED light will illuminate when you receive a message from one of your favorite contacts.
Are these two things enough to silence the critics?
Google really did a great job by re-introducing notification LED lights; however, I really did not like its approach of limiting it to just two functions. It could have been much better if the feature had worked with third-party applications as well. For instance, showing a green light when you receive a WhatsApp call from your favorite contacts.
Well, whether HiLight will ever be made compatible with third-party applications is something we will find out in the future, but on a positive note, I am really liking Google's decision to work on making the feature work with messages as well. It could certainly turn out to be the first step toward making Pixel HiLight one of the best features ever added to Google phones.
Make Pixel HiLight better with a third-party app
While the new colors and support for messages could be added to Pixel HiLight sometime in the future, there is a third-party application called HiLight Studio that you can currently use to make the feature much more useful than it currently is. However, it's worth noting that the process to set up this application is quite complicated, so you should consider installing it only if you know what you're doing.
