Apple, Samsung, and Google are arguably three of the top smartphone manufacturers, and all of them have already released their flagship phones of 2026: the iPhone 18 Pro, Galaxy S26, and Pixel 11 Pro. However, OnePlus is another brand that has released some really great mobiles in recent times—the OnePlus 15, for instance, which is widely considered one of the best Android phones of 2025.
The manufacturer is now all set to release its new flagship, the OnePlus 16, and almost everything about its specifications has surfaced online. Its release date, however, was still a mystery. Well, OnePlus has now officially confirmed the exact date on which it is going to launch the OnePlus 16.
OnePlus 16 confirmed release date
The successor to the OnePlus 15, the OnePlus 16, finally has a confirmed launch date. OnePlus made a post on Weibo mentioning that its upcoming all-around flagship smartphone will go live on October 12. This release date also confirms that the company will continue its tradition of launching its top phones in October.

For reference, the OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus 15 were launched on October 31 and October 27, respectively. All that said, it is worth mentioning that the shared release date is most likely when the phone will launch in China. Its availability in other regions, such as India, is still unknown.

Last year, the OnePlus 15 was launched in India on November 13, which was 14 days after its China launch. So, if the same timeline is followed this year as well, we could see the OnePlus 16 going live in India around October 26. Note that this is just my assumption, so please take it with a big grain of salt.

OnePlus has reportedly addressed its biggest issue
In our in-house testing of the OnePlus 15, we found that the device ticks almost all the boxes of a great flagship phone. It delivered excellent battery life, supported superfast charging, and was easily able to outperform some of its main rivals, such as the Pixel 10 Pro XL, in benchmark tests. The camera was one department, though, where we found the phone lagging behind competitors such as the Galaxy, Pixel, and iPhone.
The company seems to have given special attention to the camera of the OnePlus 16, as the phone is reported to feature a triple-camera setup at the back, with the main camera being a new 200 MP lens. The other two are a 50 MP periscope lens and a 50 MP ultrawide lens. The selfie camera is also reported to be 50 MP, which is an upgrade over the 32 MP shooter found in last year's model.
Interestingly, the camera is not the only department in which the phone is reported to see an upgrade. Reports indicate that the OnePlus 16 will feature a 9,000 mAh battery, a major jump from what you get in its predecessor. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor.
The OnePlus 16 will not launch everywhere
The OnePlus 16 is certainly looking like a great phone, but the only thing going against it is that it will not see a global launch. In case you are not aware, OnePlus has shut down its operations in Europe and the US, meaning there will be no phone launches in these regions. Shockingly, there are also rumors that the device might not launch in India, which is one of OnePlus's biggest markets after China.
OnePlus fans outside China are surely not happy with this decision. You'll find plenty of posts online from users basically saying that they want the OnePlus 16 to become available in their region.
I'll go for the Tomorrow's Starlight model
OnePlus 16 is confirmed to be available in three colors: Dark Forest, Mars Masterpiece, and Tomorrow's Starlight. If the device becomes available in India, I am going for Tomorrow's Starlight without a second thought, as it comes with some really great innovations on the back panel. That said, I am pretty certain that we will hear more about the specifications and availability of the OnePlus 16 as we get closer to its release date. So, stay tuned for that.
