Nokia 5.1 Plus starts receiving official Android 9.0 Pie update
HMD Global, the small, December 2016-founded company behind the unlikely resurgence of the Nokia brand, has been doing a stellar job of keeping its smartphones stable and fresh with fast and smooth software updates.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is the latest device to receive stable Android 9.0 Pie goodies, according to a tweet posted earlier today by the company’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas. HMD’s CPO offers no specifics on the changes delivered by the newest OS build for this relatively modest “notched” handset.
But seeing as how the phone is a member of the Google-sanctioned Android One lineup, its UI tweaks and enhancements should be fairly standard, including various battery life optimizations, intuitive new gesture navigation, security upgrades, notification revisions, and performance improvements.
Basically, everything about your low-end Nokia 5.1 Plus will be made better, marginally or substantially, once the Android 9.0 Pie rollout goes global. Unfortunately, this model is one of many sold under the recently rehabilitated Nokia brand that’s not officially available stateside.
Elsewhere, the device is also known as the Nokia X5, packing a MediaTek Helio P60 processor, up to 4GB RAM, and a 3,060 mAh battery, which are pretty decent specifications for the phone’s low price. Of course, the 1520 x 720 resolution of its 5.86-inch IPS LCD panel is not exactly ideal.
Keep in mind that this is the sixth, yes, sixth Nokia device officially updated to Android 9.0, although the much faster, prettier, and pricier 8 Sirocco continues to run 8.0 Oreo software.
