Nokia 8 kicks off highly anticipated Android 9 Pie rollout
Seeing as how the lower-end Nokia 7.1, 6.1, 6.1 Plus, and 7 Plus have already been upgraded to the stable Android 9.0 version, you could say users of last year’s upper mid-range Nokia 8 were left waiting for a fairly long time for their own delicious slice of Pie.

That wait is now over, according to HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas on Twitter, as the “phased” rollout of Android 9 Pie is officially underway just a week after impatient users were rewarded with a previously unplanned public beta build.

Clearly, whatever bugs made the global Nokia brand licensee break its November delivery promise were already ironed out, and HMD merely wanted to ensure the update was as silky smooth as it could be.

It’s important to keep in mind these things usually take time to spread their wings around the world, so although the Nokia 8’s stable Android Pie rollout is beginning today, you may need to remain patient a little while longer.

Don’t forget that there are companies around (cough, Samsung, cough) which have yet to update a single phone to the newest Android flavor. Besides, this delay wasn’t that bad, and something tells us the Nokia 8 Sirocco will also jump on the Pie bandwagon soon enough.

As the Nokia 8 is not an Android One product, its user interface could theoretically be modified from Google’s stock vision. But all in all, you’re probably looking at a fairly standard set of Android 9 tweaks, add-ons, and enhancements. We mean that in the best way, mind you, as there’s a lot to like about the “vanilla” new OS, from Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness functionality to intuitive navigation, various notification improvements, security upgrades, and so on.
