The foldable iPhone Duo was announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, but it won’t come out until October 23. While we’ve already seen many of its new and unique features, a new leak suggests that there will be at least some surprises on launch day.
iPhone Duo may have additional StandBy mode features
The iPhone Duo will be the first iPhone to feature two displays, but Apple is also considering some unique software features to make it stand out. Among them is a new StandBy mode, which the company demonstrated at the unveiling of the foldable. However, leaker @pdfu on X published a deep dive into these features, which has revealed there will be a lot of things Apple hasn’t even mentioned yet.
According to strings of code unearthed by the leaker, the iPhone Duo will come with five new StandBy faces that haven’t been revealed before. Those will be:
Home Camera
Home Modular
Flow
Fade
Snoopy
As their names suggest, the first two modes will be related to smart home features. In the first mode, users will be able to see either a single camera feed or a grid of up to nine cameras. The Home Modular could be a modular face with support for various home accessories and smart home controls.

The other three modes are most likely going to feature different art, images, and animations. Flow appears to have some responsive art, while there’s little detail about Fade. Snoopy could be similar to a screensaver on tvOS 27 and feature the cartoon character.

Digital
Classic Calendar
Weather
Photos
Memories
Shared Albums
The new leak has revealed customizations for the first three modes that are very similar to how customizing watch faces on watchOS functions. Users have the option to edit various things, such as the colors, fonts, styles, and widget slots on these faces. Changing settings works by swiping between them and scrolling through the available options.
While it may seem odd for people to use a $2,000 foldable smartphone as a bedside alarm clock, folks on Reddit seem excited about the changes to StandBy mode. In fact, the idea seems so nice that one user actually suggested that Apple should launch an alarm clock device. Otherwise, many redditors expressed their hopes that the new customizations will be available for the non-foldable iPhones as well.

Apple certainly managed to generate a lot of hype with its first foldable smartphone, but this is unlikely to be enough to make it a truly successful entry to the market. The company will face fierce competition from the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which has the same passport shape but a lower price, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which offers more advanced cameras.
Among the extra features that Apple is expected to add to the iPhone Duo is Apple Pencil support. We still don’t know much about it, but there’s a high chance for the company to reveal more details ahead of the October 23 launch of the device.
It’s just a nice feature
Having StandBy mode as a highlight feature of a $2,000 smartphone is something that would’ve worried me if I hadn't seen the iPhone Duo announcement. While I wouldn’t buy this phone for the alarm clock mode alone, it’s something I’d gladly use.
