John Ternus — Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering — might not be CEO of Apple just yet, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t already getting a feel for the role. During the recent town hall meeting, Ternus addressed employees on how the company was planning on incorporating AI into its products and services.
AI at Apple
In his newsletter Power On, industry insider Mark Gurman reveals how John Ternus told employees that he thinks of modern AI in two ways. There’s how AI can help Apple employees and customers, and there’s how AI can impact the products and services that the company delivers.

Ternus, perhaps as a subtle nod to the delayed Siri and Apple Intelligence features, said that Apple wouldn’t ship technology for technology’s sake. The company was going to use AI to “build incredible experiences” and only ship services and products that are profound.
Ternus welcomes an era of science fiction

John Ternus also echoed a sentiment that I’ve personally held and expressed many times. Modern AI is allowing us to do things that were once considered science fiction.
This is why Ternus is so excited for the possibilities that are being opened up now. He told employees that AI will help the company analyze its products better than ever before. As such, Apple can improve in ways no one would have thought of otherwise.
In his own words, “I think this is just the most exciting time to be building that I can ever, ever remember.”
Apple’s exciting new future
There is a lot of optimism to be had for how John Ternus is going to run Apple. Apparently, there is a very exciting roadmap for the coming few years.
What Apple launch are you looking forward to the most?
In addition, Ternus will have a different approach to Apple’s products than Tim Cook. There’s a reason that the top brass at the company has been wanting to make a “product guy” the next CEO.
Agreed, Ternus. Agreed
I wholeheartedly agree with Ternus. Modern AI might still have some work left to do, but it really is the most promising advancement in technology that we have seen in a very long time.
I cannot wait for the day when AI assistants on phones are actually as cool as they’re shown to be at events. Summarizing emails is the least exciting thing that this technology can be used for.
