Google is making its most advanced AI tools more accessible with its new Google One plan, which is priced lower than its predecessors. If you have been looking forward to accessing the helpful Gemini assistant tool without breaking the bank, this is the update you have been waiting for.

Opening the AI doors to more of its users

In its latest announcement today, Google revealed that it is making its more advanced AI tools accessible to more users with the launch of its Google AI Plus plan. So far, the more advanced smart tools have been accessible only with two of its premium plans: Google AI Pro and Ultra, priced at $20 and $250 per month, respectively. However, the company is now launching its mid-tier plan priced at just $7.99 per month. This plan will be made available in 35 countries, including the United States.

What you can access with the Google AI Plus plan priced at just $7.99 per month:

  • Access to Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro.
  • 200GB cloud storage for photos and files.
  • Access to specialized tools like Deep Research, Notebook LM, and 200 monthly credits for creating AI videos.

It’s also worth noting that existing Google One Premium 2TB members will automatically qualify for all the new benefits that have been rolled out with Google AI Plus. Furthermore, new members can benefit from a half-off discount on the first two months, bringing the price down to $3.99 per month.

Keeping Up with OpenAI

It’s obvious that Google has taken cues from what OpenAI has been doing with their AI products. For example, OpenAI has recently rolled out a new tier called ChatGPT Go, which will cost $8 per month. While that’s the same price as Google AI Plus, ChatGPT Go will have ads on the way. In contrast, Google AI Plus will have the tools and products that you’re familiar with, like the extra 200GB of storage that can be used for Google Photos.

If you’re trying to figure out which one will work best, it will depend on which ecosystem you prefer. Since the price is almost the same, ChatGPT Go will work best if you’re a heavy user of ChatGPT, even with the ads on the way. For the average family or student who already uses Gmail and Google Photos, Google AI Plus might work best because it has extras like extra storage and ad-free use.

How do you feel about the new $8 Google AI Plus plan?

Is the extra couple of dollars worth it?

Personally, I think this is a great move on Google’s part because $20 per month can be steep for some casual users. For $7.99, I think it’s worth the purchase, especially with the extras and family sharing.

If only Google would offer a discount on the Google One Ultra AI tier. That would make it even better and allow more people access to the enhanced features and benefits.
