Leaks and rumors are starting to shape what we can expect from the Galaxy S27 lineup. A March 2026 report suggested Samsung could try to cut costs by turning to Chinese display manufacturer BOE to supply OLED panels for the base model. But this may no longer be the case.
No compromise after all

A fresh report (machine translated) suggests Samsung may be backing away from its initial strategy. Apparently, the South Korean tech giant was looking for a dual-supply partnership for the display of the base Galaxy S27 model, with Samsung Display working hand in hand with Chinese BOE.
According to ZDNet, Samsung's concerns don't stem from BOE's display technology itself. Rather, the tech giant could be trying to secure its own domestic supply ecosystem.
Reports suggest that Samsung has been in talks with BOE to supply panels for Galaxy S models for several years. This could mean the two companies may still be looking to collaborate in the future, even if strategies for the Galaxy S27's display don't proceed as expected.
While it's too early to be confident in these claims, given that the company hasn't confirmed officially anything, ZDNet Korea has a particularly strong track record with Samsung-related leaks.

Does this make the Galaxy S27 more appealing to you?
A question of uniformity
Although BOE doesn't have a stellar reputation, it remains among the biggest mid-range smartphone display manufacturers.
Plus, having settled patent disputes, the Chinese company is now potentially gaining access to key technologies developed by Samsung that may significantly improve its position in the premium OLED segment over time.
Meanwhile, Samsung Display is one of the most important display suppliers for Apple, manufacturing not just OLED panels for the iPhone Pro lineups but also for the high-end iPad Pros. In fact, it remains a leader in display innovation and recently introduced a breakthrough hardware-based Privacy Display in the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
And yet, display consistency remains a big problem for manufacturers, including Samsung. Most recently, users in the Samsung community forum have started reporting vertical green (or pink) line issues immediately following an OS update, suggesting that even the best in class have room for improvement.
Avoiding a potential problem
The right move

When I first heard that Samsung was considering a collaboration with BOE, I have to admit I was worried. The Galaxy S lineup has historically had some of the best displays on the market, and this cost-cutting measure didn't seem like it would reflect the importance of the series.
Of course, it's still too early for definitive conclusions, but I'm hoping that this new report turns out to be true. At the very least, it would mean the vanilla model is still being treated as part of a true flagship lineup, and not just in terms of price.
