Yes, the cheap Nokia 3 will enjoy continued support: Android O update confirmed for the future

Nowadays, you can get an Android smartphone that is comparatively affordable, yet it offers performance that can be, if not snappy, then at least acceptable for most everyday tasks. In fact, one of the very few arguments against a cheap phone from a solid brand with a good reputation is the expected lack of software support. Manufacturers don't make tons of money on low-level midrangers, so budget is focused on churning out the next models, not build patches based on the latest Android updates.

However, HMD Global, the company behind Nokia's latest resurrection, seems to be on course to break the mold. Clearly, being the new kind on the Android block, the new Nokia wants to become a fan favorite, just as Moto managed to win its following with a clean interface and timely updates.

A week ago, the Finnish company confirmed that its current cheapest device — the Nokia 3 — is on course to receive an update up to the latest Android 7.1.1 version by the end of August. And just a couple of days ago, Chief Product Officer at HMD  personally replied to a fan on Twitter, confirming that the low-midrange phone will get Android O in the future, too.



There were no veiled messages. No “HMD is committed to this and that”. It's a very clear “Yes, Nokia 3 will get Android O”. Color us curious — we'd love to see HMD not only follow through on that promise, but also push the update in a timely manner, putting a lot of competitors to shame.
