WhatsApp voice calling now out of beta for BlackBerry 10 users
No one can accuse WhatsApp of being a slave to any particular platform. The Facebook-owned messaging app has recently rolled out its voice calling feature to Android users and iOS users as well. Also on the list to receive the update is the Windows Phone version of WhatsApp. What about BlackBerry? The new updated version of WhatsApp in BlackBerry World, version 2.12.1.2, happens to include voice calling as well as some other new features. Previously, only those rockin' the beta version of the app were able to use voice calling.

With the update, BlackBerry users can make free VoIP calls to friends and family (even if they are overseas). Tapping Search from the actions list allows users to instantly search for individual messages, chats and contacts. Fonts on the app now match what is being used on BB 10.3. On the BlackBerry Classic there is improved support for navigation and focus. Location messages show a larger map preview. Unknown parties that you are chatting with can have their information saved to the contacts list, and you can have a custom ringtone announce an incoming call from WhatsApp. Pictures, audio and video you receive from WhatsApp can now be filed by using year and months sub-directories. The update adds counts to the Favs/Groups/Contacts tabs when pulling down the list past the beginning, and of course there are the proverbial bug fixes.

Kudos to WhatsApp and Facebook for realizing that BlackBerry users are a social bunch and probably have an "us against the world" attitude. More developers could probably learn a lesson from WhatsApp's inclusion of BlackBerry 10 users to its voice calling feature.

Fatexo is correct. If I'm not mistaken, BlackBerry 10 users were among the first to have WhatsApp voice calls, even if it was through the BlackBerry beta testing program. Although, BB10 users already had free voice and video calls to other BB10 users through BBM, and it works beautifully. I prefer BBM to WhatsApp, personally. BBM has more features, and of course, WhatsApp can't match the BBM experience on a BlackBerry, but that's mostly due to BBM being a native BlackBerry IM client.

You can buy from someone looking to sell his/her BB10 phone if you only want to just give it a try. PS: Congrats on your 1000th post

If that's a real man's business phone, then you definitely don't have it. You're not a man, let alone a real or business one.

Say what you want Mr Blackberry. Blackberry only wishes they had the market share Android does

No they don't. YOU wish that. BlackBerry is perfectly fine keeping enterprise under and key.

They have nothing in Enterprise. I know nobody in enterprise that uses Blackberry. Only shutdown companies that I have worked at that had Blackberry and brought on Android and Apple.

The companies probably shut down due to your crappy work, if what you're saying is even true. BlackBerry is the market leader in enterprise through their EMM software. You'd know that if you weren't too busy trolling and actually looked up something factual.

I just hope that more people will use BBM, it is good app.

It's only good if the other party uses it otherwise the purpose is defeated.

You're a broken record with this, already. That's just like every other IM client out there. And don't bother responding. You'll no doubt say some rhetorical BS about me being "salty" or some other such nonsense, when you're the one making the "salty" comment here. EVERYONE knows it's BBM to BBM, just like it's Whatsapp to Whatsapp, Viber to Fiber, Skype to Skype, and so on. Give it a rest already. Stop looking for attention.
