Special Olympic Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S10+ will launch in July
A web page posted by Japan's largest wireless carrier, NTT Docomo (via SamMobile), reveals that Samsung is offering a special Olympics Games Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S10+. The 2020 Summer Olympic games will be held in Tokyo, Japan next year from July 24th through August 9th. The special edition model looks almost exactly the same as the Prism White Galaxy S10+ but features a special Tokyo 2020 Olympics insignia on the back of the handset.

Pre-orders started yesterday for the device through NTT Docomo and will continue until the day before the phone is released. While no exact launch date has been announced, the phone is expected to start shipping sometime in late July. The model is priced at 114,696 Japanese Yen, which works out to $1,042 USD at current exchange rates. The phone can also be purchased for 36 monthly payments of 3,186 Yen ($28.94 USD).

The last two special Olympic Edition Galaxy handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (2016 Summer Olympics) and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (2018 Winter Olympics), were handed out to each athlete competing in the games. We should see those freebies handed out to the 2020 participants as well. Considering that the last Olympic Edition Galaxy models for the summer games, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, were available at Best Buy, we could find the Galaxy S10+ special edition offered there as well. And if not, well you can bet that some of the Olympic athletes will end up listing their free phone on eBay.

The Samsung Galaxy S10+ carries a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 1440 x 3040 resolution. That works out to a 19:9 aspect ratio. The U.S. and Chinese models are powered by the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform while the Exynos 9820 SoC drives the device in the rest of the world. We'd expect the Olympic Games Edition to sport 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. There is a triple camera setup on back (12MP primary + 12MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom + 16MP Ultra-wide) and a dual selfie snapper in front (10MP + 8MP). A faster and more accurate ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner is on board, and a 4100mAh battery keeps the lights on. Android 9 Pie is pre-installed along with the Samsung OneUI interface. The latter puts all actionable elements near the bottom of the screen where they can be easily reached without having to stretch your finger to reach the top of the screen.
