According to the latest rumor, Samsung's next flagship processor, the Exynos 2700, wipes the floor with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite Extreme.

If true, this would mean that future Galaxy flagships equipped with Exynos will no longer be perceived as inferior to their Snapdragon counterparts.

The Exynos 2700 allegedly beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite Extreme in both CPU and GPU tests

The report comes from Korean news outlet EBN and cites internal Samsung tests of the upcoming Exynos 2700 flagship chipset. Samsung reportedly ran a shootout between its own in-house-developed silicon and a Snapdragon-equipped Xiaomi 18 Pro Max and 18 Pro.

The result? Samsung's chipset reportedly scored around 13,000 points in the Geekbench 6.5 multi-core test, which is 20% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite Extreme result, which clocked in at around 11,000 points in the same test.

The gap was around 15% in the same test based on Geekbench 7.0, and against the base version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 inside the Xiaomi 18 Pro, the difference was an astonishing 44% and 36% in favor of the Exynos, in both tests respectively.

The Exynos 2700 also performed better in GPU tests, scoring 20% higher than the Snapdragon chip, but in gaming scenarios, this gap was only 5%. Still, it is another alleged win for the Exynos chipset.

There are no single-core performance results cited, which suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite Extreme could still be ahead in that particular area.

The Exynos 2700 is coming to the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27 Plus

According to the latest report, Samsung will use the same split approach with the Galaxy S27 series, equipping the base S27 model and the S27 Plus with the Exynos 2700 silicon.

The new Galaxy S27 Pro model will most likely get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, while the top model in the range, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, is expected to get the Extreme version of the Snapdragon chip.

Samsung has a long-standing partnership with Qualcomm when it comes to mobile chipsets, and we expect it to bring the usual "for Galaxy" treatment to the Snapdragon-equipped S27 models next year.

The special tuning overclocks the core speeds slightly, giving an extra oomph to Snapdragon chips inside flagship Galaxy devices.

Are we finally getting a good Exynos chip?

The latest rumor corroborates earlier leaks and alleged test scores, putting the Exynos 2700 performance around 24% higher than the base Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 model, and 22% higher than the Elite Extreme.

There are still too many variables in this equation. We don't know the exact test conditions, clock speeds, cooling, or all the details surrounding these alleged Exynos 2700 results.

The chipset could perform differently inside the actual commercial versions of the Galaxy S27 phones, as Exynos chips have been notoriously sensitive to overheating and tend to throttle performance heavily.

Samsung was ordered to pay a $15M fine recently for misleading customers about the gaming performance of the Galaxy S21 and S22, equipped with Exynos 2100 and Exynos 2200 chips respectively.

The chips throttled in games without any apparent reason, leading to a laggy gaming experience.

Which Galaxy S27 should you choose?

That's the tough question here. If Samsung has finally fixed Exynos, or should I say made it faster than the Qualcomm alternative, then we might get quite competitive base Galaxy models.

This comes in a smartphone climate where price hikes are plaguing the industry, and the top Galaxy S27 model, the Ultra, is expected to cost north of $1,500.

What do you think about this latest rumor? Would you get an Exynos-equipped Galaxy S27 or rather go for the safer choice — a Snapdragon-equipped Ultra?
