Promised permanent price cuts for the Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge begin
Last week, Samsung announced that it would soon institute permanent price cuts for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. Today, Samsung Netherlands kicked off the discounting by cutting the price of the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 by the equivalent of $109 USD to $656 USD. The price of the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S6 edge was sliced by the equivalent of $164 USD and will now cost you $765 USD.

The permanent price cuts take effect shortly before the next Samsung Unpacked event is held in New York City on August 13th. Today, the manufacturer told consumers to "Note" that date, obviously a hint about the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 which is expected to be unveiled on the 13th. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ will also be officially introduced at the same event.

While the price cutting for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge begins in the Netherlands, Samsung's price cutting ax should soon make its way around the rest of the world. The question is whether lopping a few bucks off the price of both phones can make the two models more competitive as we head into a very dangerous time of the year for Samsung.

Next month, Apple will be unveiling the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus with some analysts expecting Force Touch to be a killer application. On the Android side of the table, the OnePlus 2 and Motorola Moto X Style (aka Moto X Pure Edition in the U.S.) are offering buyers powerfully spec'd phones at a value price. The HTC Aero could be unveiled in October as a completely redesigned high-end model, and LG is also expected to have a powerhouse coming before the end of the year.

Samsung will fight back with the Samsung Galaxy Note and  the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+. And with the price cuts on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, the company could be well-positioned to take on all comers through the rest of the year.
