Instagram and Facebook are down

It's not just you, Instagram and Facebook aren't working.

Update from Jun 23, 2026:

Service appears to have been restored. Both apps are working for me, and Downdetector complaints are trending down. User reports also suggest that the outage is over.

The cause of the outage remains unknown.

I just hopped onto Instagram for the daily dose of mindless scrolling, but posts wouldn't load. My internet connection was working fine, hinting that something was up with the photo-sharing website. Facebook was also acting up.

Something is wrong with Meta's social media platforms

Turns out, Instagram is currently down, with 15,159 reports on Downdetector as of 5:51 p.m. For Facebook, the tally was 10,259 at the same time.

The two other Meta properties, Threads and WhatsApp, are also experiencing issues, but complaints about them remain below 500.

The platforms are glitching severely, with only cached posts showing up. Users can neither check their messages nor post anything.

The reason for the outage isn't known. Naturally, people have flocked to X and Reddit to make sure the problem isn't with their phones or internet connections.
