Check out some camera samples from the Nokia XL

At MWC 2014, we took the green-tastic Nokia XL's camera for a quick spin. Our expectations weren't the highest, of course, which is why there was hardly any disappointment. The Nokia XL's camera is ho-hum, but this is what one should expect from the phone's modest price. There was considerable shutter lag, and the picture quality is not the greatest. But the camera does what it's supposed to do for a living - take photos. You'll be judge.

I predict Microsoft will ok the sale of a Nokia style Android OS smart phone like a 925 with a pure vue camera on it before the 2014 Christmas shopping season begins. it will not be an "x" phone because it's specs will be too high

Android smart phone fans World wide want a Nokia Made smart with a Pure view camera. A Nokia rep said he has been working on Android Nokia smart phones for some time Now so you can bet your butt Nokia has designed made and tested this Nokia style Android OS on higher technology Nokia smart phones. Believe me when I tell you in the back room deal rooms some USA carriers are asking Mr Elop for their Nokia style Android smart phones with a Pure view camera. an Nokia Lumia 925 design could be a good device to run Nokia's Android OS on. who knows Google itself may put an app on the Nokia Android "X" smart phones WHY? you may ask. Google would make some profits from any of the Pay for apps sold through this google play app on the Nokia/Microsoft Android "X" smartphones. The sales of apps could offset the patent fees Google pays Microsoft for android.

Obviously, Nokia is not fully gung-ho in making Android devices, but still it is kind of cool...

Nokia could have at least added Pureview tech to this phone(8MP) for added value. Their "big brother" M$ could easily have eaten any added cost, if there was any.

That might come with other devices.. Nokia says that there's more devices to come this year...

Curious as to what Microsoft/Nokia does with the 1820.

Well, I was actually talking about more NX devices, but from a hardware standpoint there's really not a whole lot more that manufacturers can do for a while.. Eye tracking, fingerprint scanners, motion sensing, IR blasters,,, those are some things that Samsung devices have that Nokia devices don't yet... And, photovoltaic screens would be nice.. Nokia is invested in Pelican technology and their 16 array camera and lens.. Those are things we may see... ....................... But, it's evident that the hardware race is coming to a end, for a while.. I mean look at the specs of the 4month old 1520 compared to the soon to be released GS5.. Not much different.. All in all I would say they about equal out, and that's never been the case for high end devices released so far apart, let alone a WP device.. So, it seems it's not about added more, and more, and more, rather refining the current technology that the phone already has.. So, the GS5 still has 2gb of ram, and that's good because why keep adding more? It's smarter to put BETTER performing ram instead... ......................... So, now that Microkia has caught up on the hardware side they can really focus on refinement of the current technology, and have no excuse but to seriously refine the WP software even more in future versions like WP8.1-1xxxx or WP8.2-0xxxx...

This is probably the most detailed and honest comment I've seen on the site in awhile. I completely agree with you word for word. Spec war race is going to go nowhere until later this year. All there is to do is improve on what is currently available. +1

Yes, you heard it here folks!!!!!!! Android fan, And WP fan finally agreed on something! ................... And, what's agreed on is what really matters for 2014, and beyond... This is the current, and new, reality of the smartphone market..

Agreed. And there's always the design portion. Nokia has had some great designs, the N950 & X7 being my favorites. With hardware and features becoming more common across OS', designs are going to be a big factor on setting handsets apart. Pricing too, which is something Nokia and Google (Moto G&X) get thumbs up for.

But, these ate supposed to be super low end devices, so we really have to accept the hardware for what it is... The experience is going to be determined by the software, and services that the NX phones have to offer... And, Nokia isn't just going to go slapping the name pureview on everything.. You know the deal....

How do they compare to similarly-priced and -specced phones? The photos look better than those from an Asha, but worse than a Lumia (surprise!)

Oh, I'm sorry for giving my opinion on something. If you don't agree with it, either ignore it or disagree but don't try to start being ignorant.

I do like the NX/XL.. I like the whole idea of the device, and what it can potentially bring to Android fans, and WP fans... I think that MS should continue in this Android effort, carefully..... ....................... I didn't like the idea of Nokia making a Android device, and I thought it was crazy, but now I have much better perspective, and I understand the benefits that it can have for everyone.. It's pretty cool, and it just goes to show how the market can surprise us, and change at any time.. Nit that anything has happened yet, but you know what I'm talking about....

If they make a device like with the Icon's hardware but have it run 4.4, I'd be happy. Or dual boot.

I know a lot of Android fans would like that, but we have to understand that MS still has WP to prioritize, and can't afford to create more competition for itself... But, I'll tell you what... If I were to get any Android device... Lol!! Yeah, that would be cool.. ...................... I hope devices like tha NX can stop all the bickering between Android/Lumia fans... To me the NX has kinda brought the two platforms together in a way... WEIRD!
