Amazon Kindle Fire 2 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD now shipping
If you missed the pre-order period for the Amazon Kindle Fire 2 or the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, the good news is that both tablets are now in stock at Amazon and are shipping now. As you might have guessed, both models offer a 7 inch screen although the one on the HD offers higher resolution of 1280 x 800 versus the 1024 x 600 found on the Kindle Fire 2. As a result, the pixel density on the HD is 216ppi against the 170ppi found on the Amazon Kindle Fire 2.

The Amazon Kindle Fire 2 is 40% faster than the original Kindle Fire and comes with 8GB of native storage and unlimited cloud storage for Amazon applications for $159. The Amazon Kindle Fire HD is available with 16GB of native storage for $199, or 32GB of storage for $249. As with the lower priced model, any Amazon content can be stored in the cloud for free.

In case you're holding out for the larger sized 8.9 inch models, the online retailer is accepting pre-orders now for both the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE. These two models are set to ship on November 20th. The Wi-Fi only version, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has an 8.9 inch display with resolution of 1920 x 1200. That leaves a pixel density of 254ppi. The 16GB version is $299 while the 32GB variant is priced at $369. For those who need LTE connectivity, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G LTE starts with a 32GB model for $499 and there is a 64GB option for $599.

All of the tablets come without any Google applications, so don't expect to find YouTube or the Google Play Store on board. Amazon will be offering content, apps and additional cloud based storage.
