Xiaomi Mi 6 in the works as company runs poll on potential specs

With the Mi Note 2 and in particular, the Mi MIX, it's fair to say Xiaomi has thrown the gauntlet down to its rivals. The company is not only looking to edge above its compatriots like Huawei, ZTE, Oppo and the many other Chinese giants, but it's clearly taking aim at the Samsungs and Apples of the world. After an exhausting four flagship handsets in four weeks, the company has already begun to think about what's next, and has opened dialogue with fans as to what the eventual Mi 6 should entail.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is just over six months old, and includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4 GB RAM and a 5.15-inch display. The new Mi 5s is rather similar, but includes a slightly larger battery and the newer Snapdragon 821 chipset. Next time around with the Mi 6, the company may look to take a different direction, and has asked consumers for their opinions on specs and key features.

The questionnaire gives fans three options for the Mi 6. First on the list is a Snapdragon 8xx-powered model with a 20-megapixel camera, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and a 'light metal body'. The second device would offer daul cameras with OIS, 4 gigs of RAM and 64 GB storage in a 'curved glass body', but it would be powered by a Snapdragon 65x SoC instead. The last option suggests another Snapdragon 65x-powered effort that would again included dual cameras, but no OIS. There would, however, be 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage and a light metal body like the proposed Snapdragon 8xx model.

Just which configuration the people will choose remains to be seen. Whatever happens, though, it's likely to arrive at a very agreeable 1999 Yuan, or just under $300. If the current Mi 5 is anything to go by, the Mi 6 will be released around February-March of next year.
