T-Mobile's upcoming plan just became a lot less mysterious. While the official announcement is expected toward the end of the month, the carrier appears to already be trialing T-Mix in select stores, as suggested by images shared by Wave7 Research Principal Jeff Moore.

The new plan will reportedly center on a "picks" system, a currency of sorts for unlocking deals. Also new are a $65/month Standard tier and the option to choose from a lineup of 13 benefits.
A storefront in Kansas suggests the rumors have been right on the money. Store displays tease T-Mix, explaining that it allows customers to pick and swap what they want.
The tagline "It's your plan" points toward a fully customizable structure, with T-Mobile inviting customers to build their plans.

Running out of ideas?
For years, T-Mobile pitched itself as an innovator. But this vision of letting customers personalize their plans isn't exactly groundbreaking. It is lifted directly from AT&T and Verizon. In fact, the "build your perfect plan" marketing feels like a direct nod to AT&T's Build‑A‑Plan program.
Granted, AT&T's offering is barebones, and T-Mobile will add its own touches to differentiate its plans.
Picks
T-Mix will use its picks structure to dictate which phone discounts and perks you qualify for. Naturally, customers on the high-tier plans with multiple lines will accumulate the most picks, unlocking the best handset deals and the best perks.

It doesn't get more T-Mobile than that.
Illusion of control
On one hand, T-Mobile says it wants you to be in charge of what gets added to your plan. On the other hand, by gatekeeping the best benefits with picks, it's just undermining the premise. Oh well, at least it's a start.
Why is T-Mobile moving toward a personalized structure?
