T-Mobile is doing something right for a change, massively boosting a popular reward
Starting tomorrow, July 23, you'll reportedly be able to get a free $250 from T-Mobile for a simple friend referral.

Did you know that you can earn a little bit of money if you're a T-Mobile subscriber and manage to convince some of your friends or family members to switch to the nation's best wireless service provider with the fastest mobile network (according to the latest nationwide Ookla analysis)?
If you were not aware of Magenta's aptly named Refer-a-Friend program, you probably will be soon enough, as the "Un-carrier" reportedly plans to turn that aforementioned little bit of money into a surprisingly hefty reward for both referred and referring customers.
Who wants a free $250?
We're obviously not talking about cash there, but... probably the next best thing, as T-Mo will apparently give you a $250 Virtual Express Prepaid Mastercard starting tomorrow, July 23, if you boost the operator's subscriber numbers by joining it on someone's recommendation or doing the recommending yourself.
The current reward is only $100, so it definitely looks like T-Mobile might be getting a little desperate to offset some of the losses its multiple price hikes and countless anti-consumer changes of the last couple of years undoubtedly generated.
The full terms and conditions of the revised Refer-a-Friend offer are of course not out yet, but I doubt they will be in any way different from the requirements of the aforementioned $100 freebie available right now.
So what exactly do you need to do?
First of all, wait until tomorrow and make sure the deal is improved by 150 percent. If that doesn't happen, maybe wait a little more. If it does happen, sign up for the Refer-a-Friend program using your T-Mobile ID here and start referring people who haven't had T-Mobile service within the previous 90 days.
If said people accept your referral and register before activating a new account (that's very important, mind you), you're good to go and both you and your friend will get $250 to spend on whatever you want for up to six months after the reward is issued.
Have you ever referred a friend to T-Mobile?
Keep in mind that referred customers will need to port in an existing number from a different carrier to qualify for this promotion, as well as pay their first bill and "remain in good standing" for you both to receive your $250 reward.
The program isn't available for new lines added to existing accounts, T-Mobile accounts or lines canceled within the past 90 days, prepaid users, Mobile Internet or Home Internet-only accounts, as well as port-ins from Metro by T-Mobile or other small carriers using Magenta's network.
How does this compare to the competition?
What competition? That's right, Verizon ended its similar Refer a Friend program all the way back in 2024 after offering $180 rewards... in the form of monthly bill credits over a one-year period, while AT&T's official Referral webpage doesn't seem to work, strongly suggesting that you can't get this type of deal there either.
That's obviously not going to be enough to right all of T-Mobile's recent wrongs (as is evident from the many Reddit comments mocking the soon-to-be-improved promotion in some admittedly hilarious ways), but I got one last detail to highlight the "Un-carrier's" impressive generosity here.

While you're currently restricted to a grand yearly total of $500 in Refer a Friend rewards (referrer and referee payouts combined), that limit is also set to go up to $750 this week, which means that you can take advantage of the new deal up to three different times in the same calendar year. That's a lot of free money you can earn with relatively little effort starting very soon.
