The high-end model in the new trio is called the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G. Apart from being a bit too long (but so is the Google Pixel 11 Pro XL), I still can't get used to this Apple-sounding "Pro Max" moniker.
But once I take a look at its quick specs, I forget everything related to its pronunciation.

Another remarkable selling point is the 100W charging speeds that this phone supports. Xiaomi (Redmi is a sub-brand of Xiaomi's) says this cell, with its 1600 cycles at ≥80% health, will last six years without significant degradation. That's always a relief. There's also 27W wired reverse charging, which is super useful as well.
Fun fact of the day: the iPhone 17 Pro Max comes with a 4832 mAh battery cell on board and the Galaxy S26 Ultra—with a 5,000 mAh one. That's almost twice as little as the 9,000 mAh+ of the new Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G!
Is it durable?
The company says the Pro Max phone can withstand a 3-meter drop, but I wouldn't test this one deliberately. But for random, pocket-level drops, it should be fine.
The new Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G comes in Cloud Blush, Purple, Green or Black color options. It weighs 225 g and offers IP66/IP68 dust and water resistance.
The RAM starts at 8 GB and goes up to 12 GB, while storage options span from 128 GB to 512 GB. I'd suggest you get either the 256 or the 512 GB model, since it's UFS 4.1 (faster read and write speeds). The 128 GB model comes with the slower UFS 2.2 standard.
In terms of cameras, you'll get a 50 MP main snapper with OIS, large f/1.5 aperture and an 8 MP ultrawide camera. So, no dedicated telephoto. On the front, there's the 32 MP selfie.
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G packs a slightly toned-down chipset, which is still good to go for everyday activities. Naturally, it has a bit more modest battery cell. But it's still super impressive.

Basically, we're getting the same 50 MP (main) and 8 MP (ultrawide) cameras on its back, but the main camera now has an f/1.8 aperture instead of f/1.5 like on the Pro Max model. Furthermore, the selfie uses a 16 MP sensor, not a 32 MP one.
The LPDDR4X RAM is 6, 8 or 12 GB and it's paired with 128/256/512 GB storage. The two top-tier options utilize the faster (but not class-leading) UFS 3.1 standard, while the 128 GB entry option—the slower and older UFS 2.2 standard.
The 8,340 mAh silicon-carbon battery here supports 67W wired charging speeds and 22.5W reverse charging. Still impressive!

It has a single rear camera—a 50 MP main snapper—and a 16 MP selfie. So what? Many would say that's enough.
The large, almost 7-inch display offers a 2396 x 1080 resolution, a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800 nits of peak brightness, with 1,200 nits available in high-brightness mode. It also features 8-bit color depth (just like almost all flagships today), a high contrast ratio and a 240Hz touch sampling rate for a more responsive feel.
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 is not put here to win benchmark contests but to deliver a reliable job. What I'm saying is this: you won't have to face hiccups when dealing with apps like Google Maps.
RAM is either 6 or 8 GB, while storage starts at 128 GB and goes up to… 256 GB. I'd strongly recommend getting the 8 GB variant, since 6 GB of RAM is a bit risky in 2026. Apps are more and more RAM-hungry.

The standard Redmi Note 17 5G makes more sense for budget-conscious buyers who mainly care about a big, smooth display, reliable performance and battery endurance rather than fancy cameras or gaming power.
None of these phones are aimed at hardcore gamers, photography enthusiasts or people who need the absolute fastest chipset available. Instead, they're for people who'd rather have a phone that simply keeps going and going without fanfares.
