RedMagic’s water-cooled gaming tablet gets a release date, official images, and superb hardware

The successor to the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 3 Pro — known as the RedMagic Astra in markets outside China — will come out on June 30. Called the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, it will be one of, if not the best gaming tablets in the world when it comes to raw performance, thermal efficiency, visual output, and battery life.

Chinese release on June 30

RedMagic has unveiled (translated source) the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro in new images and has announced a release date of June 30 across China. An international release should follow soon after, and the tablet will likely be sold under a different name when it goes global.

Following on the standards set by its predecessor, the tablet will feature some of the most powerful mobile hardware on the market today. In addition, it will also come with water cooling, which can be seen in the new images by RedMagic.

Ridiculous power for ultra smooth gaming

Powering the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is currently the most powerful consumer mobile processor in the world. The water cooling setup should dissipate heat more evenly so that the chip continues to run at maximum potential to eliminate any dips in frame rate and to get rid of any input lag.

It also has a nine-inch OLED display with a 185 Hz refresh rate, up from 165 Hz on the RedMagic Astra. As previous RedMagic users argue, the hardware for the company’s gaming tablets is unbeatable at the prices that they go for, even if the software is a bit lacking at times.



The tablet will also have a large battery with a capacity of around 8,300 mAh, slightly higher than the 8,200 mAh battery found on the RedMagic Astra. Whether the 80W of wired charging has gotten even faster or not remains to be seen.

RedMagic Astra 2?

Like the Astra before it, the RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro — likely to be shipped as the Astra 2 in global markets — will easily be the best gaming tablet for most users’ needs and wants. Especially at the expected price tag of $499, the same as its predecessor.
