Will the series be worth it? | Image by Android Headlines
The best time to buy a smartphone was last year. With every manufacturer from Apple and Samsung refusing to shoulder memory inflation any longer, consumers can expect to pay more for all handsets this year. Google, whose Pixel 11 series is about to decimate any remaining notion that the Mountain View giant's flagships are value-oriented, is no exception.
A €100 blow
Alleged Pixel 11 pricing. | Image by Dealabs
Dealabs, the French outlet known for pre-order and pricing leaks, just dropped the bad news: the Pixel 11 lineup is getting a price hike.
Across all models, Pixel 11 prices are expected to jump by roughly €100 (~$114) in Europe and £80 (~$107) in the UK compared to the Pixel 10.
One consolation for Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro buyers is that the base storage will likely go up from 128GB to 256GB.
Coming next month
The devices will apparently be announced on August 11, with pre-orders opening the same day. They will hit the shelves on August 20.
Here are the storage and color options for each model:
Pixel 11 Pro (256/512 GB): Light Fog (white), Midnight Haze (black), Dune (pink), and Pine (green)
Pixel 11 Pro XL (256/512 GB) : Light Fog (white), Midnight Haze (black), Dune (pink), and Pine (green)
Pixel 11 Pro Fold (256/512 GB): Midnight Haze (black), and Pine (green)
1TB version (Pixel 11 Pro/Pro XL/Pro Fold): Midnight Haze (black)
What is your reaction to the Pixel 11 price hike?
A modest update
All Pixel devices are rumored to retain the screen sizes of their predecessors, but their batteries are going to shrink for some reason. The base model may get a 50MP main camera, and the entire lineup will be fueled by a 2nm chipset.
Of particular interest will be a rumored feature known as Pixel Glow, but no one quite knows what it is. It may turn out to be a notification light strip on the back, but details are sparse.
Value erosion
From being undisputed camera champs to the biggest proponents of AI slop, the Pixel lineup has stumbled a bit lately. It's no longer the affordable flagship alternative, suffers from bugs, and is held back by the in-house Tensor chip.
Mint Mobile is now allowing you to get whichever plan you like for either three, six, or 12 months for just $15/mo. If you go for the six-month unlimited service, for instance, you'll now have to pay just $90 upfront instead of $210.
