If you’re into flip phones, you definitely remember the Huawei Pura X. That’s the Chinese company’s unique device that unfolds sideways to reveal a display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Apparently, the device was successful enough for Huawei to plan its sequel, and now we have more details about when it may come to the market.
Huawei Pura X2 may launch in early 2026
We’ve already heard that Huawei may launch an upgraded version of the Pura X with a larger display, but a new rumor (source in Chinese) by tipster Smart Pikachu says the device is already in its testing phase. According to him, the Pura X2 is going to launch in Q1 2026.
While the tipster doesn’t share much about the phone’s specs, he says it may feature a Kirin 9030 chipset. Huawei used the same processor on some of the Mate 80 series devices it launched in China earlier this week. He also says that “the screen is quite large,” which is pretty much a confirmation that the Pura X sequel will have a larger display.
A great concept lives on

Most flip phone devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 7, unfold vertically and feature very narrow 22:9 internal displays. The Huawei Pura X, which we’ve called “the coolest flip phone this year,” opens horizontally to a 6.3-inch display with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

That form factor also allows the Pura X to pack a 4,700 mAh battery, which is a nice upgrade from the 4,300 mAh cell on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Unfortunately, Huawei hasn’t launched the Pura X internationally, and the Pura X2 will likely also be exclusive to the Chinese market.
Flip foldables need a refresh
I prefer the flip form factor over book foldables, but the narrow displays of most of those devices are quite uncomfortable to use. Huawei’s approach to fixing the issue is simple and smart, and I hope it proves successful enough to see wider adoption.
